Washington Community Schools Granted $320,780.60 to Expand Career Pathways
Indiana Department of Education Announces
Career Pathways Grant Recipients
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) awarded 97 schools and community partners with more than $57 million in Explore, Engage and Experience (3E) grant funding. The grant will aid Indiana’s schools and local partners as they work to strengthen, expand and create effective career pathways throughout students’ K-12 learning.
A full list of school districts and partners receiving the grant to implement in the 2022-2023 school year can be found here.
The grant focuses on increasing the number of students experiencing work-based learning and earning high-value credentials while in high school, such as the Indiana College Core, an associate degree, or a career and technical education industry certificate. The grant also encourages schools to expand access to career exploration and engagement opportunities for students in elementary and middle school.
To support these goals, schools, nonprofit organizations, education service centers, higher education institutions and employers were encouraged to collaborate on plans to implement locally-driven, strategic career pathways for their students. These plans identified positive, measurable outcomes for students, including increased access, enrollment and completion of a Next Level Program of Study, the Indiana College Core or a Graduation Pathway high-value credential.
The work our teachers have done, and the partnerships our community has developed helped Washington Community Schools stand out. The grant was written in such a way as to benefit all grade levels here at WCS.

Washington Community Schools is excited for the educational opportunities provided by the creation of the Design & Innovation Lab at Washington Jr. High School. Students in grades 5-12 will be able to use the facility which includes laser printers, 5 robotic arms, a Glow Forge, STEM kits and a place for the JH Robotics team to set up their game field for practice.
WCS was able to create the Design & Innovation Studio thanks to generous donations from Vincennes University, Purdue IN-Mac, and Toyota. #IAMWashington #hatchetstrong

WCS - College & Career Readiness Committee
A district wide committee has been created recently at Washington Community Schools with the purpose of vertically aligning the school's College & Career Readiness Plan seamlessly throughout the K-12 environment. We have representation from all the different buildings to ensure our plans are meaningful and age appropriate. Another focus of this committee is to work with NAPE through a partnership with Toyota and PIPE to ensure the strength of our diversity is well represented. Toyota, through PIPE, is funding a partnership with NAPE (National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity). NAPE works with schools and industry partners to promote access to high wage, high demand STEM opportunities for ALL students. It's more than Girls in Manufacturing, it's boys in Nursing, Hispanics in AP, or Special Education students in Internships...or whatever our demographic needs are. Diversity is more than just skin color or socio-economic status, but it includes learning styles as well. How do we promote and prepare students who struggle in a traditional school environment. We are excited to partner with these well-renowned organizations as we truly look to serve ALL students.
