Hello, Families!
It was a wonderful week in second grade!
This week began our FOOD DRIVE!!! All donated items will benefit our local food pantry. Please give what you are able...with the holidays just around the corner, all will be greatly appreciated by the families who have so little. As an added bonus, each can counts as a point toward our class total, so let's make 2 LaCrosse the FOOD DRIVE WINNER!!! :) We currently are at 73 donated items--WOW!
Some second-grade students have been bringing sports equipment to recess. Please know the school provides equipment, and students are not permitted to bring their own.
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll ask if there is anything you're wondering.
If you did not schedule a parent-teacher conference yet, PLEASE do so. I will be calling to assist you if I do not have you on the schedule, since I believe it is crucial for parents to attend this important meeting!
Please ask your child:
Math:
- You learned about putting numbers into expanded form. Show me the "Pizza Method" that helps you do this!
- Can you write 324 in expanded form? (300+20+4) What about 540? (500+40)
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- Tell me about your reader's notebook. What did you add to it this week? (An organizer for main idea/detail)
- Where can you often find the main idea of a paragraph? (In the first sentences...often the first sentence)
Writing:
- What informational writing piece did you turn in to Mrs. LaCrosse?
- Tell me about the informational writing checklist. What are some things you said you are not doing just yet?
Science:
- Why is nutrition important?
- Tell me about the sugar experiment where you measured the amount of sugar in favorite treats. What did you notice?
- Tell me what you learned about serving sizes, calories, fat, and sodium.
- What did you discover on McDonald's Meal Builder website?
Other:
- What was the best part of your week?
- Is there anything you would like to be different next week? What can you do to make that happen?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely weekend!
