The Department of State advises the President and leads the nation in foreign policy issues. It also represents the United States and United Nations.
Founded
Henry Remsen was the first chief of clerk of the department of state in 1792.
The Department of State was founded July 27, 1789.
Department of State is responsible for international relations of the United States.
On May 19, 1789 James Madison proposed the creation of a Department of Foreign Affairs under the leadership of a secretary of States for Foreign Affairs.
