TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy.
Connected through Prayer
God our Father,
May we be guided by your wisdom, your love and the abiding presence of your Spirit.
Your Spirit empowers us to recognise the ways in which we are blessed and to build a community that is characterised by joy, creativity, a spirit of service and our connectedness.
Through our relationships with each other, may our school be true to the values of our First teacher, Jesus Christ.
May we recognise the special privilege we all have as stewards of His message.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord,
Amen
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
Mrs Leech, Mrs Mavrick and myself attended a Leadership presentation with surrounding schools at Trinity College this week. Representatives from CEWA shared with us the future direction of Catholic Education and how we are a system working together to provide a holistic education with the same vision. In coming months I will be sharing with you The Quality Catholic Education Framework from CEWA that will enhance our improvement toolkit here at Orana. During the day an analogy was shared with us, that CEWA provides schools with a framework to give confidence to each school to live the system vision with autonomy. We are empowered to create our own masterpieces in partnership with our community. Mrs Leech, Mrs Mavrick and I came away affirmed that our community is positively working together; child, educator and parent in our masterpiece of Orana.
The Orana learning community has a big question to ponder this semester; How do we CREATE a CULTURE of RESPECT? We reflected on this at our Monday morning assembly on how we can be respectful at school gatherings and when we represent Orana in the wider community. Each class developed a Y chart to express what they thought this would look like, sound like and feel like. I visited every classroom during the week to talk this through and for me to develop an understanding of what ideas the students came up with. The image you see above is an example of what Year 4W created. In every classroom visit words like proud, peaceful, inclusive and calm were mentioned. These positive behaviours were demonstrated at this mornings assembly and I wish to commend all students for their respectful conduct. I felt proud!
CARPARK ETIQUETTE
When driving through the Orana carpark, please be mindful of others. The speed limit is 8km and I have observed cars driving well in excess of this. Please slow down and consider the safety of the entire Orana community. We also need to adhere to the 'follow the red brick' rule and only cross the carpark at the marked crossing areas. I trust that everyone can observe the carpark guidelines.
EARLY YEARS PLAY AREA
Thank you to the families who are adhering to the no play before or after school in the Early Years area. The reason for this guideline is for the safety and wellbeing of all children.
After school, on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I strongly encourage the parents and carers of Kindy children to gather on the grassed area behind the green shed while you wait for your older children to finish their school day. This will enable the Kindy children to move freely in an open space and for the library, Year 4, 5 and 6 children to finish their learning day without interruption. I thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.
HIGHWAY HEROES
Lots of Tips and Tricks coming your way to support the Highway Heroes Program at home!
Kath has shared a fabulous resource in our Social Worker section of the newsletter this week. It is a great resource for you to use at home and explains the power of internal dialogue or self-talk. We all engage in this act of self talk, whether it be super-thinking self talk or negative and unhelpful thinking. We call this Stinking Thinking. This resource explains how we can support our children and ourselves to work through an event and flip stinking thinking to super-thinking!
Quote of the week
While visiting Year 1W to talk about the Y chart of respect at a school gathering my friend Beth stated, "Well Mrs Bell, if we don't talk about how to do things, how are we going to know what to do?!" Wise words indeed.
Every kind act is a prayer, Blessed Mother Teresa
God bless,
Emma Bell

ORANA PODCAST SERIES
We have a group of Yr 4, 5 and 6 girls who are trying their hands at producing podcasts. Podcasts are a true test of their writing abilities and we are proud to share their work with a real audience. Please subscribe to their podcast.
Looking back to see how things used to be and learn gratitude from people of the past.

FROM OUR YEAR 6 SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS
On behalf of the Sustainability Leadership Team, we want to tell you about a new programme on the ABC called Planet A.
The Programme is about a fight to stop climate change on Planet A because there’s no Planet B! It’s about reducing our emissions, understanding where our energy comes from and just what is carbon foot print of what we eat.
Be sure to tune in to iView or watch it on ABC on Tuesday nights to take up the challenge!

P & F News
Greetings from P&F!
So happy that we can contribute to the replacement of the basketball backboards. I look forward to our very own basketball superstar in the making 😊.
I really enjoyed Emma’s paragraph about the sense of community. This is certainly one of the focus areas this year, as it takes a village to raise a child. So, do look out for any chance to get involved, drop us your ideas, or come to our meetings.
Please mark you calendars for the upcoming, Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday, 4th September 2020, 7.30 to 8.30 AM. There will be muffins, bacon & egg rolls, coffee and excited kids to see their dads hanging around school for a bit. So take the time and come down, and enjoy a little snippet of your little one’s life. Orders will be available through the online P&F Shop soon - stay tuned!
Below are this week’s P&F Business Shout Out - please do check them out and support our very own local businesses.
We welcome any submissions if you have business that you would like to be featured in the newsletter and our Facebook page. Please send us your business name, contact details, a little blurb about your business and some photos, or special deals if you have any.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Kind regards,
