The Manning Weekly Update
April 21, 2024
Manning Families,
Based on our unpredictable weather pattern, we know that it is spring in Colorado! I always enjoy this time of year as the trees are budding and the birds are singing! This time of year also signals that our school year is almost over. Despite only 5 weeks of the year remaining, we will continue to make the best of it with learning, performances, and celebrations! I’m looking forward to sharing these last five weeks with your students and our greater Manning community.
I want to extend a special thanks to Laura Warren, Danelle Yocum and all of the speakers from last Friday's Career Day. We all appreciate you sharing your time and talents with our students.
Just a quick reminder, Friday, April 26 is a staff development and non-student contact day. Enjoy the long weekend.
In partnership,
Matt

6th grade social studies Aztec unit
In 6th grade social studies, we have been learning about ancient civilizations in Mesoamerica. We just finished our Aztec unit and had the opportunity to invite Aztec dancers to our school for students to see how Aztec culture exists today. The Denver metro area celebrates so many cultures and we were so grateful to be able to be a part of the Aztec community in our area. They spoke to students about how they practice their Aztec ceremonies and dances and provided some history about the culture.
Manning Battle of the Books is Coming 4/24
The Manning Battle of the Books will take place this Wednesday, April 24th during advisement. 15 teams will battle for the title of Manning Battle of the Books champion and will go on to compete against other middle school teams. The district battle will take place at the Jeffco board of education room on Monday, May 13th. We're so proud of the reading that you all have done this year and look forward to an amazing, spirited competition!
Spring musical! Lion King Jr.
We could use some help at our performances!
We are looking for some parent volunteers in musical theatre! Please see this sign up genius to help out! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0C4DAAA82CA7FD0-48277302-help We must have a signed volunteer form on file in the main office if you volunteer as a ticket taker or hallway monitor. Let Mrs. Mendez know if you need a volunteer form. Volunteers will get free tickets and choice of seat before doors open.
Summer theatre is back!
Mrs. Mendez is once again hosting summer theatre workshops! We consistently have inquiries about theatre camps or workshops that might be offered around our community and many families are priced out of some of the expensive camps or they fill up before students even have a chance to register. We will be hosting three separate one week long workshops this summer. See this link for more information and to register. Registration closes April 5, 2024 and auditions will be due by April 12, 2024.
Workshop 1: June 3-7, 2024
Workshop 2: June 17-21, 2024
Workshop 3: July 8-12, 2024

8th Grade Graduate Yard Signs - Last week to order a yard sign to celebrate those 8th graders as they venture on to high school! Purchasing a graduate yard sign is a great way to show how proud you are of all their hard work! Signs are $10 and need to be ordered by April 26th. Signs will be available to pick up at the school the week of May 6th
Sea Camp - Parents of current 6th & 7th graders - this message is for you. Manning is changing the timeframe we take a group to Sea Camp from summer to fall beginning Fall 2024. Sea Camp San Diego has requested we move our traditional summer trip to the fall as the summer dates are usually for CA residents. This means we will take our last summer trip this June with a quick turnaround to another group this fall. We currently have 3 remaining slots for the Fall 2024 trip. If you are an interested parent of a current 6th or 7th grader, the reservation and initial deposit needs to be made by May 1. All interested parents, please reach out to Cheri Cahill. The first fall trip will be September 30- October 4, 2024.
May we ask for your help this May? Manning Community: May is your month to lend a helping hand! We have several volunteer opportunities to help send our kids off into the summer breeze. Please peek at the below options and add your name to the sign-up if you can spare an hour or two.
Frozen Yogurt Fridays - Bliss Frozen Yogurt will be selling $5 cups of frozen yogurt after school between 3:30-4PM on May 3, 10 and 17 and we need a few parent volunteers each week to help distribute the goods. Let that carpool line simmer down a bit by encouraging your kids to hang with their friends over a cool cup of frozen yogurt. Manning will receive $3 straight back to the school for each cup sold. What a win-win-win to start the weekend!
May 23 volunteers needed - May 23 is a big day for our 8th graders. They will spend the morning at the park celebrating with friends before moving onto The Mines that evening for their ceremony. Ideally, we’d love 6/7 grade parents to help set-up/clean up so 8th grade parents can enjoy the event with their kids. 8th grade parents: we’d love your help that morning at the park. Thank you in advance for your support in these events!
Book Fair - Five more weeks of school remaining - are you ready? The kids will need a good page-turner or twelve to pass the time between camps and the pool. Second Star to the Right has generously outlined grade level recommendations to ease your selection process. Shopping is easy and 10% comes back to Manning!
