The 1990s Digital Timeline

Saddam Hussein
Saddam Hussein, born on April 28th, 1937. You may know him from being the Prime Minister in Iraq. He was basically a dictator and he is known for leading his army into Kuwait over an oil dispute. The U.S is not a fan of Saddam so we sent troops to Saudi Arabia to fend off Saddam's army. This was known as the Persian War.
Operation Desert Storm
This occurred in 1990-1991, this led right into the next event, Operation Desert Storm on August 1990. This event was when the U.S. sent troops to build up Saudi Arabia's army to fend off Saddam's army. Operation Desert Storm came about when Saddam and his army marched to Kuwait and then was going to Saudi Arabia. This whole plan was invented to stop Saddam's army and hopefully be able to assassinate Saddam in the later years.
Famine in Somalia
This started in the early 90's and lasted about 2 years, this was when Somalia was in famine. Famine is when food production, people's ability to access food and finally the political response of the government and international. They were in a huge struggle economically and with products. This was a huge problem for Somalia and the U.S. needed to help out the African countries.
Gerrymandering
This was during the 1990 elections, this is a political advantage strategy for a certain party or type of group that manipulates the district boundaries. Gerrymandering is usually frowned upon or involves negative connotations. It usually involves racial or demographic issues.
Americans with Disabilities Act
This act, put through in 1990, July 26th, prohibited discrimination in employment, communications, public accommodations and governmental activities. This was a huge step towards ending discrimination because you wont be able to be rejected if you can do the job just because you have a disability.
27th Amendment
This amendment was ratified on May 7th, 1992 and was another important amendment. This amendment prohibits any law that raises or lowers the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. This amendment is the newest one we have had and it took about 202 years to get ratified.
Election of 1992
This took place on November 3rd, 1972. The three major candidates were Bill Clinton, Democratic, George H.W. Bush, Republican, and Ross Perot, Independent. This election had a big decision, would you go with Bush who is leading the economy in recession and didn't too bad in Foreign policy or take a shot in the new guys. They took a shot on the new guy and that new guy was Bill Clinton.
NAFTA
The North American Free Trade Agreement became in force on January 1st, 1994. Canada, Mexico and the U.S. signed this on December 17th, 1994 and that was the day it became ratified. The major goal of NAFTA was to destroy barriers to trade and investment between the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Brady Bill
This bill was passed on November 30t, 1993. This bill was required federal background checks on people who have bought a firearm in the U.S. Since it would be absolute chaos, they closed gun purchases down for 5 days, until the new system in 1998 called NICS.
Newt Gingrich
Newton "Newt" Gingrich is know for being Speaker of the House during Bill Clinton's time and he lasted from January 4, 1995 to January 3, 1999. Gingrich accomplished many things as Speaker of the House and one major thing he helped do was cut taxes, but besides that he had a successful career as Speaker and is still having a successful one right now.
