Hello Lakeside Parents and Guardians,
The 2nd quarter is off to a GREAT start at Lakeside Elementary! The first week back from Fall Break has been busy as we have welcomed back our students, welcomed new students to the building, and got back into our routines, expectations, and procedures.
We had an opportunity Thursday night to hold our Parent/Teacher conferences and the turnout was AMAZING! Conferences are so very important to strengthen the relationship between teachers and families. It is great to discuss student successes, struggles, needs, and more as a team. Please do not hesitate to reach out to school staff outside of conferences as well. CONNECT, CONNECT, CONNECT!
On Tuesday, November 3rd, Warren Township will have a planned eLearning Day for our students across the district. On this day, your student will complete teacher-designed extended learning activities at home. All K-4 in-person students will be bringing home a breakfast and lunch meal on Monday, Nov. 2. Fully VIRTUAL students will have their AM and PM meal distribution at Moorhead Community Resource Center available to them as scheduled. Internet hotspots are available for 3rd and 4th-grade families who will need support ensuring their students can log in to their student’s CANVAS. If you would like to check out a hotspot, please give us a call by Oct. 30.
Finally, as we enter the cold and flu season, it is ever so important to continue working with your students concerning health and safety at school. All students are required to wear face masks during the school day (except while actively eating lunch). We appreciate your efforts to help students understand the importance of this for their safety and the safety of others.
As always, I thank you for your continued support of Lakeside Elementary! Take care, be safe, and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith
Warren Township's planned eLearning Day
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
On Tuesday, November 3rd, Warren Township will have a planned eLearning Day for our students across the district. On this day, your student will complete extended learning activities at home, designed by their teachers.
What is eLearning? How does it differ from Virtual Learning?
eLearning is defined as extended learning activities. Extended learning refers to activities that continue the instruction happening in the classroom; it is not the introduction of new concepts. This work is provided by teachers and it is aligned with district curriculum maps. eLearning differs from Virtual Learning in that students will not participate in direct instruction or small group instruction on Zoom and/or CANVAS on this day.
In preparation for this eLearning Day, I wanted to share information with families in advance. Depending on your grade level and learning model, there is unique information to be aware of for Tuesday, November 3rd.
If your student is:
IN-PERSON Kindergarten through 2nd grade, your student will receive work from their teachers on Friday, October 30th for the November 3rd eLearning Day. Students will bring activities home two school days prior to the eLearning Day. If your student is absent, parents/ caregivers on days materials are passed out, you may collect materials from the home school office on November 3rd.
IN-PERSON 3rd through 4th grade, your student will bring home their school issued iPads on November 2nd and log into Canvas on November 3rd to receive work from their teachers. Students will carry their fully charged school issued iPad home in their backpacks, no chargers will be provided. Work will be uploaded to Canvas by 8:00 AM the day of eLearning. *If you require internet access support, please contact the school office. **Canvas information for Warren Parents/Caregivers can be found here for first time users.
VIRTUAL Kindergarten through 12th grade, your student will receive work from their teachers on Canvas.
Activities assigned on Tuesday, November 3rd, will be due by Tuesday, November 10th. Submission of work will be used to verify your student’s attendance as PRESENT for November 3rd.
If your student needs support from their teacher on their assignments on this day, eLearning support hours will be available from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. An email will be sent from your classroom teacher to parents sharing their phone number, email and other methods of communication available on November 3rd during eLearning support hours. *If your 3rd-4th grader should need technical assistance, Moorhead Community Resource Center will be open from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM to support your device needs. The technology help desk is located on the north side of the building, door 11, near the playground.
eLearning Days may be used in the event of school closures due to inclement weather. This planned day allows us to ensure that we are employing practices that support the continuation of our students’ learning while providing support.
Lakeside Elementary looks forward to supporting our families with our first eLearning Day of the 2020-2021 school year. Please reach out with any questions.

Queridos padres y tutores

LAKESIDE FALL HARVEST COSTUME PARADE
This year’s safe trick-or-treating will be done differently this year due to COVID-19. To ensure everyone’s safety and to limit contact we will be hosting a Fall Harvest costume parade during the SCHOOL DAY on Friday, October 30th. We are asking that students bring their school appropriate costume to school on this day, in their backpacks. Make sure your child leaves any accessories like weapons, makeup, or anything inappropriate at home. At the end of the day, students will have the opportunity to change into their costumes and their teachers will parade them around the school as a class to pick up their candy. Teachers will assist students if needed, but we are not able to paint faces or do hair. The candy tables will be staffed with Lakeside staff members. Classes will go at their allotted time to ensure they are only with their own classmates and can socially distance. Families will not be allowed to join us for this event.
Even though we are doing things differently, we still need candy donations to run this event successfully. For every bag of candy, your child brings, they will earn 5 CORE cash. The Lakeside staff and families appreciate your donations, as we can’t do this without YOU!
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THE CANDY DONATION!!
19/20 Lakeside Yearbooks
THE 2019-2020 YEARBOOKS ARE ALSO STILL AVAILABLE WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. $10 LAKESIDE YEARBOOKS MAY ALSO BE PURCHASED IN THE FRONT OFFICE.
STUDENT MASK
Parents, please ensure that your student(s) come to school every day with a clean and durable mask. Lakeside has provided each student with a mask, if you have further needs please reach out to your student's teacher. All students received a washable face mask at school We have extras should a child need another in the future. Remember, washing masks daily is important!
TIPS TO ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO WEAR A FACE MASK:
- Talk about it - Empower them by sharing how wearing a face mask gets them involved in the fight against COVID-19. Remember, wearing a face mask helps to slow the spread of the virus!
- Make sure you are wearing a face mask, too - this will let your child know they are not alone and that you, too, are doing your part to slow the spread of the virus.
- Put a face mask on their favorite stuffed animal or toy - share photos of other kids wearing a mask. Showing kids like them or having their favorite toy wear a face mask will help to normalize this change.
- Remind them not to touch their masks - keeping hands away from their face will help prevent the transfer of germs from hard surfaces to their masks.
- Washing hands is key to slowing the spread - encourage your child to wash their hands before applying and removing their mask.
Virtual Update

The Technology team will keep the same hours for the help desk: Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 11am to 1pm.

Attendance
For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at his time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.
Lakeside Dress Guidelines
Just a reminder that Lakeside is a uniformly dressed school. Click this link below to download the current Lakeside Dress Policy for the 2020-2021 school year. Please contact the office with any questions.

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:
All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.
Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.
Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!
DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR CAR RIDER SIGN IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!

SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS/NEWS MEDIA USE
The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
