Jan & Feb Students of the Month
McCord Middle School
Student of the Month Description
January Students of the Month
Patrick "PK" Ferguson
PK has demonstrated solution seeking this year as he has developed routines for himself to complete assignments and make sure he studies and prepares for class assessments. He had developed a daily assignment book that he utilizes regularly and this has been a great solution for him to be even more successful in school. He is a great model for other students when it comes to his organization.
Aniya Shareef
Aniya exemplifies a resilient learner daily. She persists in problem solving and pursues solutions with confidence and poise.
Jonah Cottrell
Jonah always comes to class with a positive attitude, ready to participate and learn. Jonah is always open and very respectful when listening to his classmates. He actively participates and adds to our classroom discussions. He is constantly inquiring about new topics and it's exciting to see and hear his volume of knowledge. Jonah is very kind and it's great having him in class this year. Keep up the good work, Jonah!
The toughest part about nominating Jonah for student of the month is deciding which category-global thinker or solution seeker- to nominate him for! Jonah is a voracious learner. He searches the nonfiction section of the library to expand his knowledge regarding topics he is learning in class and sometimes he expands that learning by creating his own science experiments at home. In class, he always participates and adds beneficial commentary to the conversation. In Media Studies class, we learn about being safe online and combatting fake news and I can count on Jonah to come up with ideas during our discussions.
Owen Gemmel
Owen has been super supportive of his band classmates all year. He helps pick up around the band room each day during option and helps keep things neat and organized. He is a great role model to his peers in class and as a musician and trombone player. I appreciate his leadership and service to his classmates!
February Students of the Month
Ella Rupp
Solution Seeker of the Month nominated by Mrs. Esker.
Paige Renneker
Paige has grown as a learner significantly in science this year. She has developed habits over time to help her be even more successful, and she models these habits for others in the class.
Adah Kong
Adah exemplifies boldness in the classroom. I am so proud of her for speaking up and sharing ideas about life, about literature, and about the world. She challenges her own perspectives and brings a joyful spirit to our class discussions.
Olive Delong
Art makes the invisible, visible and through sharing creative insights and connections. Ms. Olive Delong is a true artist and one of the most creative individuals in our school. Her creativity shines through with her unique insights during class conversations and in her visual art, which reveals immense talent. She is also a kind and caring friend who takes the time to help other students with their work in a way that shows patience and understanding. Olive truly enriches our learning community and makes McCord a better place.
Other Nominees
Solution Seekers
Elizabeth Timcho- Elizabeth has been a calm, confident, and humble leader for our MathCounts Team this year. She works very hard to solve difficult problems and learn new methods to solve advanced material. I am proud to be her coach and hope that she returns to MathCounts next year!
Resilient Learners
Jessenia Hernandez- Recently, we introduced a novel that deals with heavy, difficult topics such as the foster care system. Jessie had a hard time processing this content initially, but she has truly faced this struggle head-on, understanding that it's important to discuss these matters in order to improve them. She comes to my class every day ready to learn, and I see her overcome adversity with strength and resilience every day.
Morgan Hardy- Morgan is a wonderful student to have in class. She is a student who readily listens and makes adjustments immediately. She is not bogged down by challenges, but faces them head-on and conquers them. She is always doing what she is supposed to and because of that, I appreciate her so much!
Rylee Steele- Rylee is a bright positive force in choir. She is always ready to help and does not get discouraged by adversity. She works hard to overcome challenges and inspires those around her to do the same.
Kind Empathetic Friends
Erin Eisel- Erin is a positive light at McCord. She is always willing to help others and is so supportive!
Lydia Malone- Lydia is incredibly helpful. She supports peers and works to give her best everyday. She is a positive role model for her classmates and I am so happy to have her in class!
Dakota San Roman- I know that Dakota has been nominated multiple times for being a kind and empathetic friend but I need to mention him again. Dakota is one of the most genuinely kind students I have met. When a new special needs student entered a classroom, Dakota immediately and without hesitation invited them to sit with him. When I asked Dakota to help a student who is struggling with friendships, he did not hesitate. These are just a couple examples I have witnessed. Dakota adds so much to McCord. I look forward to hearing about all the amazing things he does in the future.
Gabe Smith- Gabe is always kind to everyone around him. Every day, he thanks me and wishes me to have a good day :). Also, Gabe is a talented math student and participates in MathCounts where he works with his peers to solve new and difficult problems. He is always generous in his efforts to help a team mate discover a solution, and praises their efforts when they succeed.
