4.5.24 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families
Solar Eclipse: Students will not attend school on Monday due to concerns about the impact of the Solar Eclipse on safety. All students were given the special glasses required to observe the eclipse. Please review safety precautions to make sure your child participates in the event safely.
Book Fair: The Spring book fair will take place the week on April 22-26. Students will have an opportunity to preview materials and we will set up the digital wallet so they do not have to bring money to school. This is a great opportunity to build your families home library.
Muffins with Moms: We will honor our mother's and important female care givers (Grandmothers, aunts, step mothers, older sisters, etc...) that support our students on April 25th. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us from 8 - 9 am for Donuts, pastries, juice and coffee. Your students are encouraged to participate with you and this is a great way to meet the families of their school friends.
Bus Evacuation Drills Coming: Transportation will be conducting annual school bus evacuation drills the week of April 15, 2024. Buses may be running behind schedule on multiple days due to buses servicing more than one location.
đź’ĄIMPORTANT!!!! Please complete the family PBIS Survey
In CHUH, part of our mission is to establish and maintain an effective learning environment and positive school climate by implementing behavioral supports needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success. To that end, every year, we conduct a parent survey for families to provide input and feedback on current PBIS practices in our school. The responses to the surveys are anonymous. Emails and names are not collected, and the survey only takes a few minutes to complete. Your feedback is used by our school to identify family perception of the implementation of school-wide PBIS. You can complete the survey using this link: Gearity Parent Survey
Have a great weekend,

PTA Needs Your Help!
Help us finish the year strong!
We need volunteers to help with the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair, which is April 22-26. Please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FA5AD29A0FC1-48619548-book to view available slots and to sign up. The book fair brings joy to our students, builds a culture of literacy, and helps fill home libraries. Please consider supporting!
Teacher Appreciation is next month and planning is underway. The salad bar last year was a big success so we will be sending a sign up soon asking parents to donate ingredients/components so the teachers and staff at our beloved school can enjoy a refreshing and healthy lunch! Be watching your email, Mr. McNichols newsletter, and more for information. We have a few other plans up our sleeves and will need some volunteers to help drop off items, set up, etc.
Tiger 5K is being held Saturday May 18th. We are looking for any and all of the following:
- Participants - sign up to run/walk the race. Get a team from Gearity together to run and raise funds for all the CHUH elementary PTAs.
- Race day volunteers - direct on the course, cheer on the runners, and support the event and event organizers
- Gift Basket Makers - do you love making gift baskets? Help Gearity PTA in putting together baskets to raffle off during the event!
If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, please let me know! I can be reached via text/call at 216.548.3278 or you can email me at kelly.hatgas@gmail.com.
When we work together we build a stronger school community! Thank you for your consideration:
Sincerely,
Kelly Hatgas, Gearity PTA
News from the Nurse
April Showers can bring Allergies and Asthma
Seasonal allergies can make life more difficult. It can affect how you get through the day. If you suffer from allergies, you know the symptoms: coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and scratchy throat. Common allergens and irritants found in and around the home are pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds, dust mites, mold, insect droppings, pet dander, and secondhand smoke. For some people, exposure to these allergens can even bring about an asthma attack.
During an asthma attack, airways become narrowed and breathing can become extremely difficult. Other asthma triggers include: respiratory infections, air pollution, food, allergies, cleaning products, perfumes, exercise, and cold air exposure. Common asthma symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma cannot be cured but it can be controlled.
Please have your doctor fill out an Allergy or Asthma Action Plan for your student if needed – these forms are available in the nurse’s office and online. List allergy, triggers, medications, and phone numbers. Talk to your pediatrician about the best daily management for your child’s symptoms. Please return the form and any medication to your school nurse.
Things that you can do to help are avoid contact with allergens, Vacuum often and dust using a damp cloth – (but not when a child is in the room), wash clothes and bedding frequently, use synthetic pillows (not down feathers) and washable blankets. Ask your health care provider about appropriate allergy medicine.
District Plan for Communications with Persons with Disabilities
The District has adopted a plan for communications with persons with disabilities, which is available at the following link: Communication Plan. The plan establishes procedures to ensure that the District's communications with persons with disabilities, including applicants, participants, members of the public, and companions with disabilities, are as effective as its communications with others.
