Five Hawks Parent Newsletter
March 2024
Hello Five Hawks Families~
We have had a fun month of Reading is Tweet activities during February. Nightly reading for 20-30 minutes is an expectation for all students and goes a long way in supporting reading growth in students. Thank you for reading with your children at home!
Our PTC has generously provided funds for us to have an author visit to wrap up I ❤️ to Read month! Our author this year is Heather Boschke. She is also the illustrator of her books. She currently has two books: Little Birdie Buddies of Minnesota and Little Birdie Buddies of Wisconsin. You have an opportunity to purchase her books and have them autographed by the author on the day of her visit. Here is a link to the form if you would like to purchase a book. The author's visit is scheduled for March 6th and all students will have the opportunity to meet her and learn from her.
Speaking of books, we are looking for children’s books for our annual book exchange! A donation box will be in the front foyer near the office. We will be collecting books between March - May. All books donated will go back to Five Hawks students this spring!

We need your input! Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools has begun a strategic plan review and is seeking input to help establish a shared vision among community members.
To participate, families, staff, students and community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback during community meetings being held through April. Input gathered from these meetings will be reviewed by a Strategic Plan Core Team of diverse community members who are working together to form a draft that identifies key priorities and defines the roadmap for learner success in PLSAS. The draft plan will then be reviewed by the School Board in May.
Please consider attending one of the community meetings:

School Safety Spotlight - Meet our school bus hero, Sneaks
PLSAS student actors are at it again! This time, a group of students in grades 4-8 assisted in creating a bus safety video for their peers.
In our last survey, students indicated a greater need to feel safe on the bus. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, ensuring a secure and comfortable transportation experience is very important.
Named “School Bus Sneaks,” this bus safety and behavior video was developed to encourage positive behavior on our buses for the safety of all. The video features several PLSAS students, and also a character named “Sneaks” who helps students follow the three essential rules of the bus, which are: respect your peers, respect the bus and the bus driver.
Our elementary and middle schools will be using the video and other School Bus Sneaks promotional materials to encourage and remind students of appropriate behaviors when riding the bus. View the video, below.
