Mr. Macken's Message
Centerville Families,
We are excited to share the positive impact of our new math curriculum, Math Expressions. The implementation has been exceptional, with more students showing growth in mathematical reasoning and increased engagement. Two areas of focus have been giving students more opportunities to be student leaders in math and providing greater opportunities for students to participate in "Math Talk" with each other. What does it look like in action? Click on the link below to see it in the classrooms.
Go Cougars!

Integrate screen time and reading time
With a little planning, screen devices can become effective tools for learning. You can even use them to encourage your child to read. Here's how:
• Have your child read reviews and descriptions of shows and movies. Decide together if you'll watch them.
• Encourage your child to write down unfamiliar words when watching shows and movies. Then, ask your child to look up their definitions.
• Watch the news with your child (making sure that it's age-appropriate). Then, read news articles together to learn more about current events.
• Look for books and articles that relate to a show that interests your child.

Centennial Preschool Registration Opens March 1
The Centennial School District offers high-quality part-day and full-day preschool experiences. Preschool classes are designed to prepare students, ages 3-5, and families for success in kindergarten, practicing both academic and social skills in a “learning-through-play” philosophy. Full-day classrooms are located at each of the elementary schools in the Centennial School District; part-day classrooms are at the Early Childhood Center. Our preschool has earned a 4 Star Parent Aware Rating. Registrations received between March 1 and March 22 will be included in the placement lottery. Registration will remain open after the lottery for remaining seats. Program and registration information can be found on the district’s website.
