CMAS Testing for Grades 3-5
Upon returning from Spring Break, students in 3rd-5th grades will participate in the CMAS ELA (English Language Arts) test and the CMAS Mathematics test. 5th grade students will also complete the CMAS Science test. Testing will officially begin the first week of April. These assessments are based on grade level standards and provide information about how students and our school are performing at the local and state levels. The tests also provide school and district trend data. It also provides students with valuable test taking experience and prepares them with test taking skills for later assessments such as the ACT and SAT. Most classes test over a 3 day period each week for 2 weeks.
April 2-4 3rd-5th Grade ELA CMAS
April 8-10 5th Grade Science CMAS
April 15-17 3rd-5th Grade Math CMAS
We believe parents are a child’s first teacher. Your continued engagement in your child’s learning is essential to their success. You can help your child succeed with CMAS testing by the following:
Talk with your child about testing. Assure them it is just one aspect of school.
Help your child get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast on test days.
Work with your child’s teacher to determine areas to work on and improve at the next parent/teacher conference.
Avoid scheduling appointments during testing time, if possible.
If you have questions about state testing, please feel free to contact Mrs. Currey, Mrs. Cain or your child’s classroom teacher.
Panorama Student Perception Survey
Starting March 25th, schools will administer a brief Panorama survey to all students in grades K-12. The Panorama Student Perception Survey is a research-backed process for students, families, teachers, and staff to better understand and build a positive school climate in schools throughout our district. The survey assesses:
School Climate and Culture - Social and learning climate of the school environment, including rules and norms, behaviors, student engagement, and physical facilities.
Positive Relationships - Social connections and interpersonal relationships between students and teachers, like a sense of belonging and valuing of school.
School Safety - Physical and psychological climate and safety at school, including bullying, violence, and availability of support for students.
District 51 uses this data to assess our work on students’ sense of belonging, one of the threads throughout the strategic plan and the platform identified to measure success. Individual schools use the data to plan for and improve the climate in their buildings.
The survey is completely anonymous and allows all students to have a voice and a personal assessment of their safety and relationships in the school. The data we collect allows us to monitor progress on individual measures over time and allows schools to compare themselves to each other, the district, and the nation through national norms. All schools in District 51 have a goal to increase relationships and belonging through efforts to improve climate and culture. Panorama is the data source for this measurement.
Please take a few minutes to review the survey questions linked below. If you would like to opt your child out of taking this survey, please fill out the opt-out form found here and return it to the office at your child’s school by March 14th. This form must be returned prior to the start of the survey window, or we cannot guarantee your student will not be surveyed.
