Bowne-Munro Family Newsletter
March 22, 2024
Wishing everyone a wonderful Spring Break!
See you back at school on April 1st!
Congratulations to our March Learners & Leaders! We are so proud of you!
March is National Reading Month
Keep reading along with us!
This month we launched an exciting whole school read aloud event to celebrate National Reading Month! Through this experience, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and staff will all be reading along together.
Every family has received a copy of the same book and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. I am personally asking you to reserve time each night so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Reading together with your child develops lasting, loving memories that encourage children to become lifelong readers.
Please visit our website to access the read along videos that our staff have recorded!
Thank you for your support in making this an enjoyable reading experience for our entire school community.
In conjunction with our whole-school read aloud, our students had the chance to meet some amazing live animals at the Eyes of the Wild assembly earlier this week. The children were captivated by these animals that many had never seen before! It was an amazing experience for our school. We thank Miss Jenn for sharing her knowledge and her animals with us, and we thank our PTA for funding this program for our students.

NJSLA Testing for Grades 3 & 4
The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) will be administered this spring. Students in grades 3-4 will participate in the English Language Arts grade-level assessment and the Mathematics grade-level assessment.
The testing schedule is on the second page of this letter which was emailed to you from the Assistant Superintendent of Academics, Dr. Boley. Please review the testing dates and unit times for your child’s grade level. The testing schedule is also posted on our assessment website at www.ebnet.org/assessment.
The NJSLA Assessments are aligned with the curriculum that your child has participated in all year, so no special preparation for testing is necessary. During the assessment period, we recommend that you encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s principal or school counselor. Please also visit our website at www.ebnet.org/assessment for more information.
Solar Eclipse: April 8th
There will be a solar eclipse viewable in our area on April 8th. The eclipse will start at approximately 2:10, reach maximum coverage around 3:24 and end at 4:35.
The EBEF generously supplied solar glasses for all students, so they will be able to safely view the eclipse. Please see the link below from the National Science Teaching Association for more information on the eclipse.
TAKE OUR CHILDREN TO WORK DAY
On Thursday, April 25th, students can participate in Take Our Children to Work Day. Those who supply evidence (a note from a parent/guardian or a note from the workplace visited) will be given an excused absence in order to attend work with a parent or guardian. Students will be asked to discuss what they learned upon their return to school. We hope participation in the day's events will inspire our students and open their eyes to new possibilities and future careers!
If your child will be absent on 4/25, please complete the permission slip provided and return it to your child's teacher as soon as possible so we can easily keep track of student absences on that day. We appreciate your cooperation!
