Kleb Intermediate
Edition 22: March 1, 2021
Hello Bearcub families,
Good Sunday afternoon everyone!
We can't believe that March will be here tomorrow! How this year has just flown by. We have a couple of things going on this week and next that we wanted to highlight before our Bearcubs are off for Spring Break!
Tomorrow our Bearcubs will be taking their individual Spring pictures. The picture flyer was sent home last week, however, if you need to order photos please see the website listed below. Our online students will have the opportunity to come tomorrow morning before school starts to get theirs. For our 8th grade students, we will use this photo to create a collage for your 8th grade class photo. If they are unable to take the photo tomorrow, we will use the student's fall photo instead.
Last week we kicked off after school grade repair for quarter two. We will be introducing some more grade repair and tutoring opportunities through den in the coming weeks so we can provide our students some additional support. We also kicked off track season. Congrats to our Bearcubs on their first track meet this past week! In addition to track, we have tennis and swim season starting soon. If you are interested in those activities please reach out to our sponsors! We will also be sending home information this week about NJHS to our qualifying students. This will be for our current 7th and 8th grade students who meet the eligibility requirements for this year.
Finally, next week we will have another round of STAAR simulations for the 8th grade Reading and Math assessments. Information was sent last week via email but we will be resending the information throughout this week. Our KOL parents please take a few moments to fill out the survey to let us know how your student will be taking the simulation on those days, we appreciate you! Next week we also have our March remote learning day on March 12th. It will continue to mirror the ones from January and February. Please reach out if you have any questions about any of the events.
We are looking forward to another fabulous week and as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.

Math Counts
This year our math club students have been meeting to train weekly for the 2021-21 chapter MATHCOUNTS competition. Our team prepared for a unique virtual testing platform and gave it their all once the timer began.
Our Bearcubs not only shined on competition day from the fierce effort they committed to answer extremely challenging math problems, but they also shared a true enthusiasm for learning and teamwork with radiant smiles you could almost see behind their masks. Mrs. Gonzalez and Mr. Woll could not be more proud of this outstanding group of scholars!

7th grade lady Bearcubs!!
It was an unique season for the 7th grade girls basketball teams filled with various challenges. However, the Lady Bearcubs did not waiver! They fought hard all season long and played their hearts out through the final whistle of every game. The B team only lost one game and both teams ended the season on a high note defeating Wunderlich. Coach Golden is beyond impressed with your work ethic and dedication! Great Job Ladies!
Tips & Reminders to Prepare for Week 22:
8th Grade Reading & Math STAAR Simuations
Our 8th grade students have an upcoming opportunity to practice for their 8th grade Reading and Math STAAR assessments by taking a STAAR Simulation. The simulations provide a great opportunity for students to practice taking a STAAR leveled assessment in a simulated testing environment.
There have been some updates to the simulations and our online students do have the option to take the simulation online at home. However for the actual STAAR test, all students will need to come to campus to take the assessments and an at home option will not be available. The simulations on campus provide an opportunity for our online students to reacclimate to taking a test in an on campus environment prior to the actual day of STAAR.
We will have two testing days for our 8th Grade tests to complete the Math & Reading assessments. The Science & Social Studies assessments will be given the last week of March. The 8th Grade Reading Simulation will be on March 9th and the 8th Grade Math Simulation will be on March 10th. The Reading Simulation will be for all 8th grade students and the Math Simulation will be for all 8th grade students with the exception of 8th grade Algebra students.
In order to prepare for testing, all Klein Online families should complete the following form. It will allow us to place your student in the correct testing room and help us facilitate dismissal. The forms are due by March 4th. Thank you so much for your help.

Campus Sporting Events
This includes: With limited capacity rules and following Klein's guidelines for all Intermediate campuses, we will be restricting our spectators to our participants/athletes, the parents, grandparents, & siblings of the athletes, and the season pass holders. We are limiting our spectators in an effort to ensure that family members have an opportunity to watch their student's play. Spectators must present their pre-paid tickets at the entry gate for each game to order to enter. A limited number of tickets will also be available for family members to purchase at the game but on a first come, first serve basis. Families will be required to sit together and socially distance themselves from other families. There will also be some special procedures for spectators at the on campus facilitates.
Please note, all spectators must wear a mask for the entirety of time while on campus. We appreciate everyone following this rule so we can continue to hold games!
We are continuing to look for opportunities to be able to invite students and other community members to the games once we are able to accommodate everyone safely or there is an adjustment to the Intermediate campus guidelines.
KOC Reminder
Beginning Monday, November 9th, if your student is coded as a KOC (Klein On-Campus) student the expectation is that the student attends campus daily for instruction. If a student is unable to attend campus, then they will be counted absent for the day. The student will be allowed to work asynchronously through Schoology, but will not be allowed to attend Zoom. If a KOC student needs to access instruction synchronously for absences that extend beyond one day, then the parent will need to contact the attendance office by 3pm by email (dbanks1@kleinisd.net) or through Skyward messaging for administration to approve for the following day. The change comes in an effort to reduce the daily back and forth transitions that are occurring on campus, which the data and feedback shows is reducing learning outcomes and is burning the teachers out with the inconsistencies. Our hope is to get closer to a sense of normalcy, as best as possible, in our current conditions.

Online Testing Guidelines
- Be present on Zoom at the time of the class to take the test and remain in class the entire period. If a student is not present online during the class on test day, they will have to arrange a time with the teacher to take a make-up test. If all testing opportunities are missed, then a zero would be recorded in the grade book for that test.
- Have their cameras on with the student's face in view. Students must have their cameras on the entire time they are testing. If not, teachers will give the students reminders to turn it on before exiting them from the Zoom. Students that begin the test and then turn off their cameras or leave may cause their test to become invalidated.
- Ensure their testing environment is free from distractions and communicate with their teacher if they are having any issues.
Zoom Participation Guidelines:
In order to help support our students more effectively and manage our Zoom/Online classrooms, we have implemented the following guidelines that will be required in order to participate in Zoom.
- Students need to follow the dress code when online with their teacher and/or classmates
- Students will need to make sure to use their first and last name as their screen name in order to be let in from the waiting room
- Students will need to leave their cameras on for the entire time while in the Zoom session unless there are extenuating circumstances that does not allow them to do so. If those circumstances exist, then the student or parent needs to contact their teacher to let them know.
Students may use the Chat feature for topics related to the lesson or to communicate with the teacher.
Students need to be participating in a conducive work environment, for example, students should not be Zooming in from a vehicle.
Parents, please note, that our Zooms are considered part of our classrooms. Our campus is diligently working to create a cohesive classroom environment and provide our online students an opportunity to engage with both the teacher and other students. If you need to contact one of our staff members for questions or support, we ask that you email or call them so that they can reach out and address any issues.

Live School is going Great!
Liveschool is a website and app that allows us to reward our students for positive behavior. Liveschool will replace the CUB Cards and Cub Wristbands that our students earned in the previous years. Students will be rewarded points for following our Virtual and On-Campus CUB Behavior Matrix. Students will be able to use their points to enter to win raffles and rewards throughout the school year.
Ask your student to login to their student account.

How can parents help?
Each week we rely on donations to help fund our gift card rewards. If you would like to donate a $10-$50 gift card to a local store or restaurant you can drop off your donation in the front office, have your student drop it by the 8th grade office, or hand it to Mrs. Lammers in the car rider pickup line. Thank you for all your support!

Cell Phone Policy: Pulled from the 2020-2021 Klein ISD Student Handbook
Electronic Devices and Technology Resources (All Grade Levels) Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Mobile Telephones: The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes.
A student must have approval to possess other personal telecommunications devices such as laptops, tablets, or other portable computers. Students are not permitted to possess or use personal electronic devices at school unless prior permission has been obtained. Without such permission, teachers will collect the items and turn them in to the principal’s office. The principal will determine whether to return items to students at the end of the day or to contact parents to pick up the items. The use of mobile telephones or any device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in locker rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event. If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated. The parent may pick up the confiscated telecommunications device from the principal’s office.
Please reference the Student Handbook for more information about cell phones and acceptable technology use.
Attendance Procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
· Parent Note
· Parent email (within 5 days of absence)
· Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
· Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
· Court note
· Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office at 832-249-5495 or reach out to your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 36 of the 20-21 Student Handbook.
