Congratulations to our new MRHS Principal, Jennifer Police!
Monomoy Regional School District has named current Monomoy Regional High School Assistant Principal Jennifer Police to be the next principal of the district’s high school, following the resignation of Principal Burkhead, who is moving into a superintendent position off-Cape.
A hiring committee comprised of administrators, teachers, parents, support staff, and students reviewed the files of 12 applicants for the high school principal position. Of these applicants, six strong candidates were selected for interviews. From these interviews, the field was narrowed to two highly qualified finalists.
Given the need for social distancing, the two finalists each took part in remote meetings with high school parents, students, and staff. Following each of these virtual sessions, there was a clear consensus choice both amongst the parent, student, and staff who provided feedback on the finalist to the hiring committee, with 89% rating Police as an exceptional applicant. The hiring committee felt similarly and unanimously decided to move forward Jen Police to the Superintendent as the recommended successor to departing high school Principal Bill Burkhead.
For the past two years, Police has been an Assistant Principal at Monomoy Regional High School, with a focus in her role on curriculum and instruction at the high school. Prior to taking on this role, she served three years as the Director of Guidance at Monomoy Regional High School. Police served as a guidance counselor and a specialist in supporting the success of high-risk students in other districts before joining the Monomoy team.
“Jen is exceptionally well connected to the students, families, and staff of Monomoy and will have the ability to leverage this connection during an unprecedented time, when all are seeking stability and some sense of normalcy,” said Monomoy Superintendent Dr. Scott Carpenter. “More than that, she is also someone who I’ve watched grow as an educational leader, with a keen appreciation of the academic and cultural aspects underlying great high schools.”
Police will formally begin her new position on July 1, 2020.

FREE photography for seniors by Kat Szmit
"In 2015, I started my new job at the Cape Cod Chronicle. A few weeks later the Class of 2020 entered MRHS as eighth graders. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many of these amazing kids through sports and other activities and events. Along with them, I’ve been heartbroken at the loss of all they had been looking forward to. To help make things a little happier, I’m offering senior and family portraits AT NO COST. I will happily go wherever the graduate is living and take photos in caps and gowns, with family and standalone images of the graduates. Photos will be carefully edited to create print-worthy images, which I will upload to personal Google Drive folders for families to download. Again, AT NO COST. This is my gift to the Class of 2020." -Kat Szmit

MAY SCHOLAR ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
Rory Carpenter
The Senior Attackman and 4 year Varsity captain helped lead the team in his Junior year to a 14-4 record and its second straight tournament appearance with 32 goals, 59 points, and 20 ground balls. Rory was also named “Unsung Hero” in 2019 for all his other contributions to the team. Rory is Senior Class President and has been Class President for three consecutive years. In addition, Rory is Treasurer for the National Honor Society’s Monomoy chapter and a Key Club member. Best of all, Rory is finishing strong with a 4.7 GPA in his Senior year and winning the Senior Class Language Award. Rory’s leadership, heart, intensity, and tenacity has been critical both to our team’s success and his personal achievements. We know these traits will serve him well at the Air Force Academy in the next step of his journey.
Kaitlyn Lyons
Kaitlyn is a member of both the girls varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. She was named a Cape & Island All Star in lacrosse last year and was the backbone of the defense. As a student she is in NHS, she has a 3.9 GPA and her academic achievements include winning the Abigail Adams scholarship. She is a member of National Art Honor Society, and she was chosen to attend the Women in Sports Conference in Boston. She is also the president of the school's Key Club.
