Tidbits from the President
I just watched the eclipse, sort of… I’m in Austin, babysitting my new grandson. Heavy clouds that turned into a ‘Texas’ shower about 1 hour later. This would be perfect quilting weather, but
my machine is in Fort Worth. I am coming back to Fort Worth for the April meeting and retreat. I’m excited to see what Jonquele has in store for us. I am looking forward to sewing constantly and hanging out with all my quilt buddies (old and new) at retreat. I even talked my mother into coming to the retreat. She has sewn clothes, toys, upholstery, lap quilts (which she refuses to call quilts) and now she is into embroidery. I think she will enjoy hanging out with a bunch of quilting ladies.
Everyone enjoy these cool days of spring…Texas summer is just around the corner.
See ya soon.

May Workshop: Friday May 20 – 6 – 9 PM Evening WORKSHOP – ZOOM $45.00 per person
June Program:
Featuring Sharon & Loren Wilhelm -“Sashings Bold and Dangerous”
Sharon is an entrepreneur of several previous companies: Country Collectibles, Sharon’s Quilt Depot and now co-owner in Quilt Ideas pattern division. She designs blocks of the month, single patterns, punch needle, coloring and embroidery patterns and more quilting designs for Loren to make out of wood. She loves to teach anything pertaining to quilting, help quilters put together colors for new quilts and make quilts to give away. Our newest adventure is to give guild programs and workshops using our vast collection of quilts.
Loren is and has been a quilter for many years making all kinds of large, small and miniature quilts. He loves to write. He has a beautiful voice and was in radio production for 20+ years (KBOX/KMEZ Dave O’Brien) and he is a large job concrete estimator. Now he is co-owner in Quilt Ideas as a pattern designer and manufacturer of the Quilt Hangers and Accessories division.
“Sashings Bold and Dangerous” How they can make or break your design.
Sometimes we get the blocks finished and we are at a stopping point trying to decide what sashing or setting to put with those blocks. Some are so old we have to be very creative to blended the old with the new. We will give you some examples of things that just happened and some that were planned with a display of quilts.
Workshop: Barn Quilt -Crayon & Embroidery
Saturday 9 – 3 PM $35.00
Sharon will guide us in using Crayons to create a barn quilt picture.

Quilt Show Booth News
I just want to encourage everyone to make at least one thing for the Guild Booth this year. We will be glad to have anything you think would sell.
Also, if anyone is interested in carpooling to the show I will be glad to set it up.
Be thinking if you would like to spend some time in our booth waiting on customers :) that is the best part...bragging about our wonderful guild.
Thank you all
Ann Houpt, Booth Chairman
Raffle Quilt
Let’s keep selling those tickets for our raffle quilt. This is a big fundraiser for us and we only
do it once every two years.
We need someone to handle the logistics for the quilt. This means keeping track of where it is,
where it is going, and with who. You do not need to find people and places for it to visit.
We also need members to volunteer to take the quilt somewhere and sell tickets. This can be
another guild, a shop, a retreat. Anywhere you are willing to go. No one wants to do all of this alone but one meeting: one day, maybe with a friend???? Is there another guild you are a member of? Is there a guild you have wanted to visit? This is the way. Ask one of the board members if you don’t
know how to contact someone to visit.
Visitor this month
Dallas Modern Quilt Guild will be bringing their raffle quilt to our April meeting. Please plan
on buying a ticket(s) to support their guild.

EMBROIDERY BEE

FRAYED KNOTS
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of the month at Jonquele's. We had a small group in April, but enjoyed our time together.
TIGHT KNOTS -- March Meeting
Our host this month was Chris Tomich. Not sure how she pulled off this meeting; as she was just getting over over a surgery and heading into another one. Good luck Miss Chris. As always, we chatted with each other to catch up on what was going on in our lives. Lots of talk about cars, then on to bee business.
Pat Wagers started out show and tell by passing out shamrock coasters she made for us to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Then she showed us some adorable bunny embroideries. She also shared a cross stitch she did and a mystery quilt she is working on. Margo Grunseich, placed a applique she is working on the floor and asked for help with colors choices for her background. She also gave each of us a small Easter light set as a thank you gift for allowing her to join our group. Carolyn Hughes produced a darling St. Patrick's Day truck applique piece. Grace Stroud had two baby quilts to show. Also, she shared a quilt made of blocks by bee members a few years ago and she added a few extras to finish out a stunning travel quilt. Each block represented a country she has visited. Cheri Bigham recently finished another bee group project. It was a beautiful quilt made from paper pieced star blocks. Chris Tomich made some baby quilts from small squares with lots of different colors. Cecilia Villa's granddaughter is going to be very pleased with the purple Easter dress she made for her and the cute sailor collar dress. Judi Janes finished up show and tell with the mystery quilt she has been working on.
We closed out our meeting with great snacks and Margo won our fat quarters in a quick game of left right center. We told her not to get too excited about winning at her first meeting. We didn't plan to be nice to her next meeting.

Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text or JPGPNG pictures. We can attach pdf documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device in order to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files which contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
