The Taiga Biome

Location and Climate
The Taiga Biome is found in parts of Asia, Europe, and Canada. These parts are cold in the Winter and Warm/hot in the Summer. Only 4 months have an average temperature over 50° F (10° C).
- Winter's LOWEST temperature in taiga is -65°F.
- Winter's HIGHEST temperature is 30° F.
- Summer's LOWEST temperature is 30° F.
- Summer's HIGHEST temperature is 70° F
The Taiga climate has an about 12 - 33 inches (30 - 84 cm) of water. Most of it falls in the summer as rain.
White Fir
In order to survive the wild, this producer grows near the moist areas. The White Poplar doesn’t live for long though, and are used for shade trees because they grow so fast.
White Poplar
This plant of nature says alive by the needle-like leaves to soak up moisture. The leaves can grow up to 2.5 centimeters. These are very common trees in the Taiga biome.
White Spruce
These trees are 60-100 feet tall and can live to 300 years (3 century’s). The leaves are slightly flat and are 2-3 inches long. The cones are 2-5 Inches big and colored green to purple.
Gray Wolves
The gray wolf has many special adaptations. Their coats are made up of wooly fur to provide insulation and long guard hairs to keep out moisture. The gray wolf's large paws have fleshy pads and claws for traction and can spread to provide better support in snow. Wolves have a sense of hearing twenty times sharper than a human's and have a sense of smell a hundred times keener. The wolf's jaws can deliver a crushing pressure of over 500 pounds per square inch! Wolves' vision is very motion sensitive. They are also nocturnal. The gray wolf can live up to a life span of 17 years.
Red Fox
The red fox usually rests in a burrow during the day that was recently abandoned by larger creatures such as a badger. The sly, intelligent fox adapts well to different habitats. It specializes in hunting small mammals such as rabbits and hares. The red fox is very elegant, intelligent and a nocturnal creature. It usually travels and hunts alone. It is a carnivore. The fox eats small animals like rabbits and hares.
Wolverine
powerfully built and is well adapted to living in the cold. It has very strong jaws that can bite through frozen meat and bone.It is known for it's physical strength and sharp, accurate hunting skills. Wolverines have a very keen sense of smell that helps it locate food. It feeds mostly on rodents, fish, reptiles, birds, carrion, and sometimes berries.
The Food Chain
As Shown, the arrows point towds the animal that eats them. (as if they say, "hey, they're going to eat me!") the arrows piont that way to show the energy moving from one to another.
The moose and elk are NOT going to eat the wolves. The wolves will win and have their feast, so they try to stay away. (but things do happen.)
Example: The plant soaks up sun water and oxagain, the elk eats the plant, and the wolves eat the Elk.
