The Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) Library was recently recognized as an Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE) Exemplary School Library Award winner. The OLHMS library is one of only six libraries in the State of Illinois to receive the award.
The Kolmar halls have a really cool addition to them, the 5th graders recent art project that focuses on movement. 5th grade artists focused on one of the principles of art: movement and the art element: color. They learned about 4 color groups: Primary, secondary, warm, and cool colors.
As fall break drew near, Hannum had a lot to be thankful for. Students enjoyed many Thanksgiving and fall themed activities. First grade teachers were excited to have their annual Thanksgiving feast; especially after being unable to do it last two years.
Mrs. McCarthy, OLHMS Media Specialist, and 6th grade students have been hard at work preparing for their "Know-vember" book talks! During ELA classes, 6th grade students visited the library to prepare for a book talk presentation. Each student chose a book they would recommend to another 6th grader.
Our PBIS focus this month will be on kindness. This month, we are learning about being kind. We can show kindness to people, animals, and even the world around us. Whether you're doing a kind act or having someone be kind to you, kindness feels good.
On Thursday November 10, 2022, Hometown Elementary held its annual Veteran's Day assembly. Local Veterans were invited to attend this program honoring their time served in either the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The program was led by principal Amanda Bencik, and included contributions from each grade level.
Lots of smiles, full tummies and great fun for Sward's preschool students as they enjoyed the Thanksgiving festivities. Sward staff members commented about the wonderful aroma from the cornbread and the turkey cooking in the oven. The preschool students had a wonderful time celebrating together.
