Prime Time Care at Oakley Park
For the times you can't be there yourself, it is reassuring to know that Prime Time Care (PTC) supports your efforts to ensure your child is in a safe, nurturing, and positive environment while in our care. Our tuition-based program is designed for parents who require child care before and/or after school. Our experienced staff seeks to meet the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of your children.
Our program is state-licensed at all twelve elementary schools and all four middle schools of the Walled Lake School District for children enrolled in Kindergarten through eighth grade. The program follows the Walled Lake Consolidated School calendar for holiday recess and inclement weather closings.

Important Information Regarding Transportation
Our staff has a strong partnership with our drivers as they begin and end the school day with your child. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to your driver. The easiest way is to call the Transportation Line and leave a message for your driver. They will return your call as soon as they are able. Transportation Main Line: 248-956-3090
STOP CHANGES: Stop change requests are now being accepted for the 2019-2020 school year. Requests must be submitted on or before September 30, 2019. Each one will be reviewed and you will receive a written response. It may take up to 3-4 weeks for you to receive a response. If you are new to the district or have recently moved you may submit a stop change request. You may call transportation or email at: transportation@wlcsd.org
LATE BUS HOTLINE: All late buses will be listed on the hotline if the driver is running TEN OR MORE minutes late. LATE BUS HOTLINE 248-956-5199
***In the event of an emergency or accident, parents will be notified by a Skylert email or personal phone call.
BUS PASSES
Students may not ride any bus but their assigned bus without a bus pass. Bus passes are only accepted on routes that have room for additional students. Bus passes are only issued for extenuating circumstances. They will not be issued for after school study or play dates. Most school buses are full and therefore cannot ordinarily accommodate additional students.
SCHOOL BUS STOPS
There are two kinds of school bus stops:
- Overhead red light stop All traffic must come to a complete stop when the overhead red lights come on. Children may be crossing the roadway.
- Yellow hazard light stop Traffic may proceed around a stopped school bus with caution. Children will not be crossing the roadway. For more information on the hazard light stop, please visit this link and view our Hazard Light Video:
Safety Drills
Fire Drill: Students and staff vacate the building in a safe and orderly manner using the exit that is closest to their location at the time of the drill. The actual alarm is very loud and the alarm unit includes a strobe light. Once outside, teachers account for all students. We conducted our first drill on Thursday, September 12th.
Alert/Tornado Drill: Students and staff move to a location that has been determined to be safe, away from window areas. Students kneel on the floor, bending over covering their head. Once in position, teachers account for all students. In some cases, students and staff take shelter in their own classroom while others have a different designated location. There is a pre-recorded message played over the PA system that instructions everyone to take shelter. We conducted our first alert drill during the week of Sept. 16th.
Shelter in Place: The procedure is simple, staff and students remain in their classrooms to allow for clear hallways and classroom learning continues as usual. We do use this procedure throughout the year to ensure proper medical attention/support can be given if a student or staff member is in need. There is a pre-recorded message played over the PA that instructions everyone to “Shelter in Place”. We will conduct a Shelter in Place drill during the week of October 1st.
2019 Fall Picture Day
Retake Day: Wednesday, October 30th
Ordering online is fast and easy and eliminates having to send anything to school with your child on Picture Day! Order forms will be sent home closer to September 24th.
End of the day plans:
Communication is critical to be sure all students know their plan at the end of each day. Please discuss your family plan with your student each morning. The end of the day is a very busy time in the classrooms and front office. In order to ensure teachers are notified about any end of the day plan changes for your child, please notify the office no later than 2:30. Likewise, we will not release students after 2:40 (of course exceptions can be made if an unavoidable need arises). The end of the school day is an important time for your child…our classrooms are engaged in the learning process through the very end of the day. Classes often spend time reflecting/discussing their learning from the day.

Food Allergies at Oakley Park
Please be aware that we have several children at Oakley Park that have life-threatening allergies to various foods containing products such as peanuts, nuts and dairy. Some may neither eat, touch nor even inhale the aroma of these foods without life-threatening consequences. As a result, it is imperative that we all keep this in mind when planning for any food brought into school.
We are asking for your help and cooperation as we work together to keep all of our students safe. Please remember this serious allergy situation when sending any food to school with your child. Parents are encouraged to make alternative choices when sending food to school with their children.
Although Oakley Park is not a nut/dairy free building, we must keep these products out of the classrooms that could cause a negative reaction. A detailed letter was sent to families in the those classrooms that have specific restrictions based on students needs. All students will participate in a discussion about the special prevention measures to help ensure the safety of all classmates. This will be an age appropriate explanation that may need reinforcement at home.
We have designated certain areas and classrooms in the building as "allergen free".
Allergic students will receive close supervision during lunch and on field trips, and will be eating in an area where food products that pose a danger to them are not allowed. There is an emergency plan in place for unexpected exposure, but our most effective tool is prevention and education.
We appreciate the support of families in helping to minimize the possible exposure for these children. As always, the health, safety, and well being of each and every child at our school continues to be of the utmost importance to all of us.
