Markers
If you just smell the marker, its not a problem. You see when you smell those really huge big bold sharpie markers, it kills the brain cells which makes you seem high because you can't think right. And yes you can die if you smell it a lot. So don't freak out if you smell a sharpie. Just be cautious.
Gas
Yes, huffing gasoline can produce a sensation that some people call "high". It's not at all like being high on marijuana. It is a very short high caused by your brain being flooded with, essentially, poison. It can kill you, but you are more likely to end up a vegetable for the rest of your life. There are much safer ways to get high. Don't huff gasoline or glue or spray paint or anything like that.
Paint
The fumes are toxic in high amounts and yes, they can damage brain cells. Don't worry about it too much try to get some fresh air if you can.

One state in the US averaged more than 3,800 emergency room visits and 450 hospitalizations a year due to inhalant poisonings, according to statistics released in 2008.
By the time students in the US reach the eighth grade, one in five will have used inhalants. In 2007, inhalants were the substance most frequently abused by youth aged 12 or 13.
