This is it! Tonight's the night for the annual Thornhill Night at the A's game!
If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, you can still go online and buy them today for the A's game this evening against the Seattle Mariners. Tickets cost $32 for Field Level seats and $20 for the Plaza Outfield section and can be purchased via this link at the A's website.
A portion of each ticket sold will go directly back to the school. Tickets have to be purchased through the above link in order for Thornhill to get its donation credit from the A's.
ALSO...Dads Club is pleased to host the Tailgate Party BBQ from 5-7 p.m. before the game in Parking Lot B, Area 1. Dinner will be fully catered by Maverick's BBQ of Concord! They’ll serve big burgers (1/3 lb), hot dogs, veggie burgers, and a selection of gourmet sides. Dads Club will provide beer and wine. Advance tickets can be purchased online or cash at the door.

It's Not Glamorous, but it's Necessary
So we all have said, "I wish our school was more aesthetically pleasing."
Well, we're looking for some help on Saturday with prepping the portable walls for the upcoming mural. And now is the time to put your paintbrush where your mouth is!
Don't let this opportunity to contribute to the community pass you by.
Here's when we need your help...
Saturday April 22
--Prepping the portables.
Thornhill Parent Ben "Red" Lins, of Integrity Paint and Design, has generously offered to help with priming the mural walls on Saturday. If you see him please give him a High-Five!
But, before Ben can start, we need to do some prep work on the portables starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
We need people to tape and cover things we don't want painted, put down drop clothes etc. When the painting begins we will need people to paint in areas that can't be sprayed, follow the spray gun to get any drips and runs, and to help move the scaffolding.
Come, bring the kiddos...And be the first to leave your mark on Thornhill!

Read-A-Thon Update!
As of this writing, the Thornhill Read-a-Thon has raised $9,000! Way to go Thornhill! I believe we will reach our fundraising goal of $25,000 by the time the Read-a-Thon ends on May 1.
Dare I hope we will reach $30,000 in this fundraiser?
Misplaced that flyer with instructions on creating your student’s unique Read-a-Thon page?
Never fear, another flyer went home this week. Please help your student create their Read-a-Thon page and, parents, use your social media accounts and email addresses to get sponsors. The more you share about the Read-a-Thon online, the more sponsors and prizes for your student—and the more funding for all the great programs at Thornhill!
Remember, 90 percent of the funds raised by the Read-a-Thon are donated to the school, with 15 percent going to the readers as prizes. And the class that raises the most donations will get an ice cream party! The class with the most reading minutes will get a pizza party courtesy of Mr. Daubenspeck!
Parents: Do you have a business? Would you like to purchase inexpensive advertising space that will get views on all the Read-a-Thon pages? Please contact Adamika at adimika@gmail.com if you are interested, or if you would be willing to solicit local businesses for advertising.
Thanks for supporting the Read-a-Thon!

Donations!
The Thornhill Library received several spectacular donations last week:
Vivien Olofsen and her family donated Dorothea Lange, The Photographer Who Found the Faces of the Depression; Malala, Activist for Girls' Education; and Ladies of Liberty, The Women Who Shaped Our Nation.
Audrey Oh and her family donated Six Dots, The Story of Young Louis Braille, and Rad Women Worldwide.
Last but not least, Ms. Forbes donated Lexie the Word Wrangler. Thanks so much Thunderbirds!
Be sure to look at the list of books on the Thornhill Library Amazon Wishlist. There are so many wonderful titles to choose from, and the library would love to have them on our shelves. Feel free to support our local bookstores by making your purchases there. As always, thank you for supporting the library!
Happy Reading,

Mother-Daughter Science Workshop
Sarah's Science & The Toyology Team presents the Mother-Daughter Science Workshop, this Saturday, April 22.
You bet girls love science! Check out our new Mother-Daughter Science Workshop led by the mother-daughter duo Sarah Shaffer and Riva Zippin. This workshop is designed to let girls ages 5-12 experience the joy of science and help mothers support their daughters' pursuit of science.
In this workshop we'll have a blast exploring electricity. Mothers and daughters will work together to design, wire, and take home their own Electric Light-Up wearables! After a potluck lunch, while the daughters make a second exciting hands-on science project, the mothers will break off to share ideas and resources on ways to encourage our daughters in science.
The workshop will be held Saturday, April 22 at the Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland. Workshop hours are from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Register online today or call (510) 581-3739 for more information.
Sincerely,
Josh Cohen

Helping Hands
We are opening up the Helping Hands auction party to more participants so if you thought you missed your chance, think again!
Spend and afternoon with friends while we assemble care packages for the homeless in our community. There will be a presentation from our partner organization, Operation Dignity, along with light refreshments and a little bit of solid teamwork. Participants of all ages are welcome, however we ask that all participants under the age of 6 are accompanied by an adult. The event promises to be a fun way to get kids (and adults) involved in giving back to the broader community while building our own Thornhill community at the same time.
The event is 3:30-5:30 p.m. on May 7. Tickets are only $20 through the Auction website.
Can't attend but still want to help? Consider donating supplies.

Fentons Creamery Celebration and Fundraising Night
A great American once said...Well, this American is your humble newsletter editor...
"You can never be in a bad mood when you are eating ice cream."
Words to live by, right?
So, with that in mind, come out and have some ice cream to celebrate the end of the Read-a-Thon and your child’s accomplishments by dining at Fentons Creamery on Tuesday, May 2!
Fentons will donate 15 percent of your check back to Thornhill for our Read-a-Thon Fundraiser (excluding tax, gratuity, Myrtles Creation, and gift card sales). Guests must dine in for the fundraiser--whether it be dinner and ice cream or just ice cream or just dinner.
This fundraiser will be a bit different from the other Dine Outs we’ve had. (Fentons has not partnered with BigPie). A flyer about this Celebration/Fundraising Night will be sent home on Monday, May 1 in your child's backpack. Bring this with you on Tuesday, May 2.
You MUST bring in a printed copy of this flyer to get the 15 percent donation. Fentons will not accept digital copies on your phone. We will email the flyer to all families too through the Room Parent Network the weekend before the event so you can print it out yourself if you’d like.
