Panda Post
We Learn.We Collaborate.We Celebrate
A Note from Miss Fisher
September 2, 2018
A #PAWSome 1st week is in the books for our #PandaFamily!! Looking forward to many more to come for #PES1819! Thank you for your care and attention to help us get our pandas home safely every day! Keep working to build that classroom family and community of learners. I hope to join some morning meetings this week and Second Step lessons in K-2. We had a great time connecting with new Kindergarten families on Thursday morning. I only received glowing comments from the Central Services Senior Leadership Team as they toured our building this week.
Wish Well
Please accept my apologies, if I have left someone out - do not hesitate to reach out and let me know how you would like to be added next week.
Furniture Surplus
We are anticipating items to begin getting picked up this week. Please, please, please make sure these are items you do not need, as there is no guarantee we would be able to replace them next summer. If there is something you are in need of, please check with Mrs. Slaughter before we send it away...we have quite the "garage sale" list!
Lunch Room Tables
Public School Works - Signatures Missing
Another round will be coming soon!
Summer Learning Challenge
K-8 schools had the Summer Learning Reach 20 Reading Challenge again this year. Students may be bringing in their logs. The form looks like this.
If you have students bringing these in, please turn them in to Mrs. Lee's mailbox ASAP so we can turn in names for prizes.
Important Staff Reminders
Absences: Please remember all non emergency absences should have prior approval from Miss Fisher. For emergency absences please text Mrs. Slaughter and Miss Fisher (Mrs. Petty if it is for buses) after you enter into Aesop (Absence Management) so we can plan accordingly for the day.
Lunch: Please pick up your kids on time from lunch!
Ice packs for students to use will be located in the refrigerator/freezers on K hall, 4th grade, or the media center. If a student needs an ice pack for something minor, you may use one of these without sending the child to the office. Please replace when you are done.
All things 2018-2019 can be found on our PES Master Schedule Google Sheet.
Health Room: Mrs. Slaughter has created forms that students will need to visit the Health Room. We are asking you to fill out these forms to ensure efficient communication between teachers and office staff as well as to reduce the waiting time of students in the office. Please be sure to complete this form for EVERY student you send up. The Nurse Referral Checklist outlines when students should be referred to the nurse for illnesses or injuries.
Red Bags In order for you to provide care in the classroom and on the go, the Red Bags will allow you to attend to minor needs. Red Bags will be passed out on Wednesday. These should be go and stay with your class to recess, lunch, and specials. I will share more during Tuesday SLT.
Refrigerators: These are only allowed in your classrooms if there is a medical emergency, please discuss with Miss Fisher if you have special medical circumstances.
One more week to vote!
Thank you to those that have already voted. Students can also vote, you may want to consider facilitating this for our students. Access the survey here.
Counselor's Corner - Panda University and Teaching PAWS
Continue teaching, modeling, and practicing PAWS and behavior expectations from the new matrix. Remember that the old panda university lessons do NOT align to the new matrix - this is something the Behavior Team will revisit this school year. The new matrix can be found here.
A few ideas for teaching behavior expectations:
- Teach through modeling - have students act it out!
- Develop looks like/sounds like T charts for different areas (Ex. What does PAWS look like and sound like in the hallway?).
- Videos and/or read alouds.
- Go to the areas of the building and practice!
Other Behavior Resources
- PAWSitive Office Referrals Keep them coming!! Students have enjoyed calling home this week and the parents have also enjoyed the surprise "PAWSitive" call.
- Sample Flowchart (the Behavior Team will create one this school year, this can be used temporarily as a guide.
- Major vs. Minor Behaviors
