Wow, time flies, it is hard to believe it is December 23rd! Today we put the finishing touches on the first semester of high school for our students. We have had a great first semester and are excited about the class of 2020 in so many ways. Not only are they getting the job done academically, they are helping our community through food drives and Christmas support for needy families. We are very proud of this group and the job they have done.
As high school students the end of the semester means earning credits. Credits are a critical component of high school courses that determine if students graduate from high school. As a high school student, any failing grade means no credit is earned and the class will have to be repeated. We had a great turn out for our after school study tables over the last few weeks with over 150 students staying most evenings to complete assignments and prepare for final exams. All of this work keeps us moving toward our goal of sending every student to BDHS or BDU on track to graduate by having earned 12 or more credits.
Semester 1 report cards will be mailed by January 6th. Please watch for those in the mail. Some of you may see a grade of "IN" on your students report card. This means our teachers will be working hard with your student for a few weeks after we return to try to recover this credit. This is a last ditch effort to remediate and demonstrate mastery of the skills and content for students who receive an "IN". Please ask your student about this grade and look for contact from that teacher when we return in January, to outline what needs to be done to earn the credit. Monitoring progress on any grades of "IN" is critical as students tackle this opportunity.
Winter is upon us, we have been fortunate to avoid bad weather at this point and certainly hope that this trend continues, but are prepared in the event it does not. As always the MSD of Wayne Township takes a number of factors into account as we consider student safety during inclement weather. A full outline of this process is available on the Wayne Township homepage.

Information on Weather Delays
Winter is upon us. As the season progresses we may face the prospect of having to delay or cancel school on a particular day because of snow, ice or other poor weather conditions. I’d like to remind you of some of the key procedures we follow to communicate with our families on these days to keep our students safe.
If school is delayed or cancelled, we will communicate this in the following ways: on local television and radio stations and their websites; on our district website, www.wayne.k12.in.us; through an automated phone call from our superintendent’s office; through Twitter; and on our district Facebook page, which you can access and “like” through our website.
If we announce a delay, that will mean a two-hour delay. This means if your student takes the bus, you can expect his or her pick-up time to be approximately two hours later than normal. Since our pick-up times can vary somewhat during delays, it’s always a good idea to encourage your student to dress warmly in case his or her wait at the bus stop is a little longer than normal.
I appreciate your help in keeping our students safe and healthy during the upcoming winter months.
