Fiona's House
When Fiona wakes up in her abandoned home, her surroundings are not the same as when she was tucked into bed by her father- just the other night. The carpet is gray instead of green, her music posters are worn, and her first-place ribbons from several music competitions are a pale blue. Her bed is bleached and covered with twigs, leaves, and mouse droppings. She is also wearing strange new clothes: white nursing shoes, and all white clothing. Things are definitely not the same as they were before.
"I don't remember going to sleep. All I remember is waking up here- a place as familiar as my own face."
The Sewer
After being chased out of her home by the beast her brother has become, Fiona is led into a sewer by a mysterious girl named Arrin. Arrin and Fiona then trek through the sewers to find a safe haven. Fiona's new travel companion helps her to disguise herself as a boy because girls are considered dangerous in this futuristic society.
The Camp
After being drawn from the sewer system by the smell of food, Fiona is caught by the militia, a group of soldiers. The militia is specially trained to capture people like Fiona and Arrin. Although Fiona doesn't know exactly what's going on, she is taken to a camp where she is scanned and declared a "Level Ten". Here she meets Bowen, the only officer at the camp who cares for her.
The Mood and Atmosphere
Desolate, Abandoned, Unknown. The world outside of Fiona's room is a mystery. When she wakes up as a 17-year-old with the mindset of a 13-year-old, everything is confusing. From the time Fiona wakes up to the time she is captured, she is confused, but also desperate for information. Click on the link below for a summary of the book.
What's next?
