Our Learning- September 16, 2016
This week, we:
Reading:
*learned how to get information about characters, setting, and major events in stories through the words and the pictures
*practiced making predictions within a story
*explored a dictionary and an encyclopedia
Work work:
*learned about the –am word family
*worked with our spelling words for the week
*continued to practice in our handwriting book
Writing:
*learned about possessive nouns such as Mrs. Granger's class and Jake's pencil
*started a new "small moment" piece of writing
*worked on telling our story in small steps
*practiced making our characters show feelings and thoughts
*continued to learn strategies that help us when writing unknown words
Math:
*used tens frames, number lines, and pictures to help solve math problems
*worked on addition and subtraction word problems
Science:
*studied the temperature and weather patterns of the week
*learned about weather tools: thermometer, windsock, wind vane, and rain gauge
News
CogAT testing for first graders will be on Wednesday, Sept. 21-Friday, Sept. 23. Please make sure your child goes to bed early before testing, eats a good breakfast, and arrives at school on time for testing. Due to the testing schedule, there will be no lunch visitation on testing days.
