Students Inducted into NJHS
On Thursday, April 11, twenty- four seventh and eighth grade students were inducted into the Heritage Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Students are eligible to participate in this organization if they meet the 3.5 GPA requirement and show good character, leadership, citizenship and service. Students must fill out an application which is reviewed by the Heritage Faculty Council for acceptance.
During the induction ceremony, students pledged to maintain high academic standards, as well as maintain the other standards of NJHS. A guest speaker, Mr. Darnell Carter, who is a former Heritage student addressed the inductees to encourage their efforts and praise their determination and stamina. Administrators gave accolades to the students for being accepted into NJHS. They explained the importance of holding oneself to high standards.
Leland Davis was awarded the Josue Alvarez Award. This award is given to one eighth grade student who most exemplifies the NJHS five pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.
The Honorary Faculty Member for this year’s induction was Mrs. Sarah Washington.
Refreshments were served, and many parents and family members came out to support their talented students.
