We are Learning & Having Fun in K-1
The Snowy Day & How to Make Water Walk
What We Are Learning...
This week we finished our "Snowy Day" Unit. We continued to work with "Snow Dough", make a snowman craft, and play "roll-a-snowman". This week we also retold the story in our own words and wrote sequencing stories. We were able to arrange our sequences into cool snowmen!
In reading, we started to read some books featuring our guest illustrator, Daniel Kirk. The kids did a great job using their imaginations along with the story!
In Math, we have learned numbers up to 17. We continued to "decompose" the numbers, e.g., 12 is 10 plus 2 more, 15 is 10 plus 5 more. Remember, when writing teen numbers, the 1 always comes first!
We also did our Science Experiment for our Science Fair. We don't want to give our results away, but ask your child if we were able to make water walk! You can visit the CBS Science Fair on 2/4 between the hours of 10:00-11:00, 1:00-2:00 and 5:30-7:00.
Next week we will begin "tapping" out words. Please see a video below of what tapping is about.
Worth noting...
Alex, our star of the week this week, caught a bug on Tuesday. We will reschedule his week later this year! Feel better Alex!!
Bits & Bobbles...
- With the cold weather upon us, indoor recess will be happening more frequently. When possible, the kids can go and play in the gym- but they MUST HAVE APPROPRIATE footwear. Sneakers are best. :)
- With that being said, we are trying to build more breaks into the day for the kids to get the wiggles out. See below for a video that they really enjoyed.
- Please check your child's folder every night
- PLEASE, PLEASE, (PLEASE) label any and all money (in an envelope or baggie with your child's name) coming into the classroom. This is exceptionally important for lunch money. All it takes is "two loose lunch monies" to get mixed up.
