WELCOME TO GRAHAM'S ISLAND!
Announcements
- Please log in to your student's Edmodo account to monitor their progress so you can see the amazing work that they are doing!!!
- Please help your child stay organized by checking their binder at least once a week. Each tab should be labeled, and their assignments should be placed in the correct areas.
- If you would like to speak with me regarding grades, conduct, etc. please email me or message me on DOJO.
Class Dojo
Class Dojo is working great! However, we still need to connect many of you. Look out for our invite so you can jump in. Dojo is used to track and monitor positive behaviors. While we love to accentuate the positive, it is sometimes necessary for us to highlight the negative behaviors. We want you to be aware of your child's behavioral progress. The children are very familiar with the Dojo, and are versed enough to explain to you why they lost points in any given area. We thank you for checking the Dojo regularly, and we look forward to lots of positive days and reports!
Homework Policy
Homework is generally posted on Edmodo. For students who do not have technology access at home, we've made accommodations for them to get the assignments in another format. They are also allowed to work on the the assignment at school the next day. They will be held responsible for all assignments regardless of where they complete it (at home or at school). While homework is not graded, students do receive points for completion.

CHECK OUT WHAT WE'RE LEARNING!
Social Studies
• why the colonists were unhappy with British rule and how the Revolutionary War began
• about the creation of the first U.S. government and how the nation expanded
Here are some ways that you can help your child learn:
TALK ABOUT IT!
Chapter 3: Creating a New Nation
The colonists believed that British tax policies were unfair. Talk with your child about some things he or she thinks are unfair. How could these things be made fair?
Chapter 4: A Growing Nation
In the California Gold Rush, large numbers of people moved to California, transforming it from a sparsely populated area to a state in only three years. Discuss with your child how your community would change if someone found gold there. How would it grow? In what ways could the new arrivals make the community better? Worse?
MAKE SOMETHING!
During the Industrial Revolution, many products and techniques were invented that changed the world forever. Working together with your child, create, design, and draw plans for a new invention. Come up with a new idea that can improve the way people work or play.

LET'S GET FLIPPED!
In an effort to successfully facilitate the implementation of our flipped classroom model, it is necessary for your student to have frequent access to technology outside of school. This includes the use of a computer or tablet that has access to internet, word processing, and presentation software (PowerPoint and Prezi).
The goal of our instructional design is create an environment where students take ownership of their learning. In this environment, they do not become reliant on the teacher as the sole provider of knowledge.
For students who do not have technology access outside of school, all the resources necessary are available at school with time constraints. This is so because there are classwork requirements that have to be met during the school day. Please feel free to contact us about how we can help you get “tech ready” at home.
