Raise the Roof
Community Helpers
We kicked off our Community Helper unit in January! We are working on identifying various community helpers, such as firefighters, doctors, nurses, police officers, construction workers, mail carriers, dentists, etc., and the tools that go along with each. During centers, we pretended we were farmers and drove our tractors through the mud (paint), used various tools to hammer and cut playdoh, and talked about the role of community helpers. We also dove into a winter theme; we made patterns with sleds and mittens, glued snowmen together, and ordered objects by size.
During P.E., we played instruments to music and then passed the instruments to friends. We also practiced swinging a bat to hit a big ball. With our friends from Rm 4, we played in our doctor's office and construction worker dramatic play areas, went "ice skating" with wax paper on our feet, and made moon sand (8 cups flour to 1 cup baby oil).
Last week, Flossy the Rabbit visited us from the dentist office to talk about how to brush our teeth and the importance of eating healthy foods.
We had a new Instructional Assistant begin with us last week. Nikki will be replacing Syndi in the Panda classroom. She is already a great new addition!
Upcoming
- Please see my email in regards to a different drop off/pick up location for the next few months
- We will be having our first Field Trip on Tuesday, January 30 - to the Fire Station! You should have received the information in your child's backpack. Looking forward to it
- It would be great to point out community helpers to your child that you come across in order to work on vocabulary and learning the importance of different jobs in our world. I'll be sending home a couple papers on Monday or Tuesday in hopes of getting more info about your own jobs so we can make a class book.
