Panther Post
November 7-12, 2016
Hello Lopez Families,
It was kind of a weird week without big events. We are in between sports seasons, but we still had a lot going on at Lopez. We had about 70 kids go down to the AT&T Center and tour the arena as part of the incentives for our fundraiser. The first picture below is us in front of the Spurs championship trophies. It looks like they are having a good time!
We also had one of our wonderful art students win the grand prize at a ceremony for the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Ashia Lee Pereira will have her picture hung in the Goldsbury Foundation Lobby of the hospital so all can see. We are so proud of her! There we are in the second picture below. Her art piece, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is the lower picture between us. Mrs. Volz, her outstanding art teacher, is with us to celebrate. I love it! There is a clearer view near the bottom of the newsletter.
Thank you for all you do,
Eric Wernli
Principal

Shout out to the Arts department
Lopez 8th grade student artists once again participated in Operation Proud Nation. This amazing program produces a mosaic of student artwork that collectively makes a large image thanking the men and women who serve and have served in our military. Lopez art/history students have produced and submitted 270 amazing artworks along with a written message expressing their gratitude. Operation Proud Nation is a national program taking place in cities across the country. Thousands of artworks will be collected from coast to coast to create a giant 4’ X 8’ mosaic mural that will be installed in a prominent public location (the 2015 mural is currently at the Pentagon with Lopez student's artwork included).
Participants will also be able to see the mosaic mural in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, and see how their artwork fits into the “big picture” as well as the message that they wrote. In addition, a copy of each artwork will be mailed to a member of the military.
Melissa Volz art teacher, and 8th grade History teachers, Garcia, Folkes, Shea and Faro would like to thank a special group of Lopez parents for typing the messages the Lopez students wrote into the Operation Proud Nation online submission form. The time you gave it very much appreciated. Thank you.
Service Hours
Lopez families,
Lopez Panthers should be tracking their service hours. The hours should be tracked in their Leader in Me binder on the service hour log page. They may also track their hours for the PVSA awards website. This consists of time they spend in any type of volunteer role - at school or on their own. This will help them reach their personal goal and will help Lopez complete their school-wide important goal of 10,000 service hours this year.
Instructions on how to enter your service hours can be found at: https://snapguide.com/guides/log-presidents-volunteer-service-award-hours/.
The site for actually putting in your hours is: http://presidentialserviceawards.gov.
Send us a picture of your child in his/her service role and we will display it on a celebrations wall! mvolz@neisd.net or ftobac@neisd.net
We can't wait to see the great ways our Lopez Panthers Serve!
