Teamwork Make the Dream Work!
Our Late Start Monday's are filled with staff collaboration time as they look at student achievement, groupings, and goal setting. Our teams have worked hard to get all of our interventions groups up and running and schedules coordinated with one another. We're excited to now extend our teaming to include our families as we look forward to Student-Led Conferences coming up on October 18th, 19th, & 20th.
Student-led conferences are a great way to check in on how things are going to this point in the year, as well as having students set goals that will help them be successful in their own right. These conferences allow students to show families where they're at, what they're proud of, and where they can grow. Hedden staff have started to schedule these conferences with families. Teachers will also be supporting students as they present their learning and discuss their goals for the upcoming school year.
If you have not yet communicated preferences for a date and time for student-led conferences, please get that to your student's teacher as soon as possible. We're excited to be able to have this time with you to help set us up for a wonderful year at Hedden. Thank you for sending us such great kids to work with, and thank you for partnering with us to make this a great place for them to grow as learners and community members.
Kind regards,
Don Sims

P.S. We are almost to our total goal for our Harlem Wizards "Wizfit Challenge". This is our ASB fundraiser for Hedden. We will have a motivational assembly at Hedden during the day on 10/5. We've almost hit our goals resulting in some pies in faces and some colored hair!
P.S.S. The Harlem Wizards vs. Staff basketball game at Surprise Lake Middle School is a PTO fundraiser for the game starting at 7:00 pm on Thursday, 10/5.
This is going to be a fun event for our families and will help raise money for our school... Purchase your tickets here or share this link with the kids and pump it up in class if you can... we still have tickets to sell!
If you have a second in class... watch this video!
The game is on October 5th at 7 p.m. in the Surprise Lake Middle School gym! This is a multi-school event., our elementary schools are joining in with SLMS. Here is our lineup:

The biggest impact is that they no longer have to charge dues to join! Now if you want to participate, you just need to reach out and offer to volunteer. Anyone working with our students directly though will still need to complete the district process for getting approved to volunteer.
1. Every Friday throughout the year, PTO alternates selling "Books for a Buck" or "Friday Treats". Students look forward to these events and for $1 or less they get to choose and item of their choice.
2. Scholastic Book Fair during conferences, 10/18 to 10/20. Stop by when you bring your student for their conference. They may still be looking for a few volunteers too and you could earn some scholastic dollars for yourself in the process.
3. PTO Dance-A-Thon Fundraiser on Friday 11/3. Once a year the PTO has a fundraiser to support our students and it's coming soon.
