PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE by Kayla Bell
Dear Families,
Thank you for attending our Family Night last night. It was nice to see so many families engaged in learning together. It was also wonderful to see students take the lead and do the teaching in the classroom. We do hope that you were able to see the progression of skills and discover some new vocabulary in the math curriculum. While I know that some adults struggle with the math, I am pleased to report that our students understand it. They are also becoming more and more proficient in their math skills. We are confident that the longer students engage in this level of learning the stronger their critical thinking skills will become. I also want to thank all the parents who attempted to climb the rope last night. It is not as easy as it looks, and I applaud your efforts. And thank you for getting on those scooters, and for just playing with your children last night. It is nice to see the smiles and the laughter.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, our staff wishes to acknowledge that we are thankful to be a part of this wonderful community. We are over 600 students strong and we continue to grow. Each month we continue to welcome new families to our school. We hope that our families feel welcomed here.
At Nancy Ryles, we value the diversity of all of our students and our families. While we cannot control what is going on outside of our building, we can work to maintain our own culture and community. We share common values around being SAFE, RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE. This includes being safe, respectful and responsible with our words as well as our actions. Our students are caring individuals who have open minds and loving hearts. In December, we will celebrate the CARING nature of our students. We will be working to notice and honoring those students who are caring towards one another.
In addition, we are also working to celebrate KINDNESS and JUSTICE. Kindness is doing something nice for others without expecting a reward, and Justice is practicing fairness and standing up for what is right even if it is unpopular. Our Kindness and Justice challenge will last for two weeks and begins on November 29. Students and staff will be challenging themselves to do as many acts of kindness and justice as they can each day and keep track of how many things they see others doing.
Please help your child at home by looking for examples of kindness: helping, sharing, showing respect, caring for others, volunteering time, being friendly, encouragement and help them look for examples of justice: fairness, standing up to bullies, following rules, standing up for what you believe, speaking out against hurtful or mean actions.
Join us in the challenge!!
Kayla

BSD Unveils new My Stop™ app to track your child's school bus
We know that you are busy and want to make the most of your time. Wouldn't it be great to know when the bus will get to your child's stop each morning? The Beaverton School District's Transportation Department has partnered with Versatrans® to bring you the My Stop™ bus information app.
Available for both iOS and Android, My Stop™ gives you the ability to know exactly where your child's bus is on the route. The app pinpoints the bus's location on a map, as well as provides the estimated time of arrival to a specific student's bus stop. The app uses the District's GPS system. The location is updated every five seconds and the estimated time of arrival is recalculated due to traffic delays. The app will come in especially handy during inclement weather.
The District has been testing the app for several weeks and it is now available for free for parents/guardians and students.
My Stop™ requires very little setup, especially for parents and guardians. Usernames are tied to specific students. All a parent needs to do is log in using the student's ID # as the username and the student's birthdate as the password.
