Where Am I Going
My career as a.....
Job Description: Provides support services to students, staff, and parents. Support services include referrals, counseling, assessment, diagnostics, and report writing. This work takes place at the school site, in other public buildings, and in private residences. Additional responsibilities include student scheduling, maintaining individual student Education Plans, etc.
Median Salary: $39,270
Job outlook: he field of Mental Health Counseling is one of the few fields in the nation that is predicted to grow at almost 3 times the rate of other forms of employment. Employment in the aggregate is projected to rise by 11%; the field of Mental Counseling by 29%. This rise in demand for Mental Health Counselors advantageously is not because mental illness is skyrocketing at a phenomenal rate, but rather because those who suffer from mental illness are now able to receive counseling they previously could not afford. New health laws require that under a medical policy which offers mental health aspects, an insurer must provide the same amount of visits to a Mental Health Counselor as they provide for medical visits (referred to as “parity” policies). Under the Affordable Care Act, if the policy says the patient has 35 visits to a medical physician, the patient will also have 35 visits to a mental health specialist.
Cluster: costumier service

Students can typically enroll in a master's degree program with a bachelor's degree from a wide range of fields.

Boston College (BC) in Massachusetts
Why This College?
Boston College is a Catholic Jesuit college that ranked 31st among national universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2015. That same year, the university was designated as a best value school by USN&WR, and The Princeton Review also categorized it as one of the top schools in the Northeast. In preparation for state licensure, students can pursue a 60-hour Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling Psychology program with a concentration in mental health counseling. Aspiring professionals who intend to pursue a doctoral degree can apply to the 48-hour M.A. in Counseling Psychology - Mental Health Counselor program. At BC, the doctoral program culminates in a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology. This course of study is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
