Stampeding into STAAR
We are 2 instructional weeks away from the first week of STAAR Testing at FMS!
During HERD, all students will be Stampeding into STAAR by completing STAAR practice and preparation on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Each week there will be a different practice for the STAAR which reinforces what students are already doing in their regular classes.
6th-8th grade students will be working on math per their individual needs using the ST Math program and preparing for their Reading/Writing STAAR by practicing writing short constructive responses and extended constructive responses. In addition to ST Math practice and short constructive responses for Reading/Writing, our 8th graders will also be getting extra practice on their science and social studies short constructive responses.
Attendance
Our YTD campus rate has been steadily increasing this semester. The goal for FMS is a YTD campus rate of 95%.

6th grade- 93.16%
7th grade- 93.67%
8th grade- 90.91%
Our year-to-date campus attendance rate is 93.43% (8/16-3/8).
6th grade- 92.82%
7th grade- 93.49%
8th grade- 93.94%
All attendance notes can be turned into the front office or to Ms. Briggs at sbriggs@florenceisd.net.
Please notify the school of the dates that your will be out participating in a stock show event.
Student Chromebooks
In order for your child to learn effectively and be successful in the classroom, they need to bring their fully charged school issued device and charger to school with them every day. Our librarian, Ms. Long, issues loaner devices for students who do not bring their Chromebook to school.
Due to the number of requests for loaner Chromebook we receive daily. A system has been put into place here at FMS. Each nine weeks, the first time a student borrows a loaner chrome book a reminder will be given to the student and parents will be notified of this. For each additional time a student borrows a loaner, that nine weeks, a lunch detention will be assigned to the student. This process will be reset every 9 week term.
Additionally, please encourage your students to charge their Chromebook every night and bring a charging cord to school every day. A good practice for this is to have students charge their Chromebook at home with their Chromebook in their backpack. Remember, bringing Chromebooks and having them charged will enhance your students learning during the school day.
Thank you!
