Gifted and Talented Nominations
In an effort to greater serve students with advanced learning needs, Wylie ISD has open nominations for gifted and talented identification for students in 1st and 3rd through 11th grade each spring. If you are interested in having your child screened for Wylie ISD’s Gifted and Talented Program, there are a number of important things to remember:
February 12: Referral Forms will be made available online and at the campus.
March 1: 3:00 Referral Form deadline.
March 18 – April 26: GT screening and assessment will be administered at the student’s home campus during the school day.
April 29 –May 3: All scoring and ratings will be completed by GT assessment teams.
May 6 – May 10: Campus and parents will receive results.
August 2019: GT services begin for newly identified students.
*Students who were already screened this year must wait a full year before being retested.
5th Grade Math Announcement
Fifth graders took their middle of the year district checkpoint for Math on January 29, 2019. This data is used by teachers and administrators to track student progress thus far and to predict how students will perform on their STAAR test at the beginning of April.
The scores on the checkpoint test have been added into Skyward but do not count towards their grade average. These scores reflect how your child did on the material that has been covered to date in fifth grade. The students have logins for the online textbook for additional support at home using their Clever login.
Going forward, we will use this information to best support your child in ways which will continue to promote academic growth and success in Mathematics. Thus, students will be placed in small groups during the day that best address their needs.
● If your child scored above an 83%, then your child ‘Mastered Grade level’ and is expected to score Advanced on the Math STAAR.
● If your child scored between a 70% and an 82%, then your child ‘Meets Grade Level’ and is
expected to pass the Math STAAR.
● If your child scored between a 49% and a 69%, then your child is ‘Approaching Grade level’ and with additional support is expected to pass the Math STAAR.
● If your child scored below a 49%, then your child ‘Did Not Meet Grade Level’ and is in need of additional support to be successful on the Math STAAR.
If you have any questions about your child’s checkpoint Math score, please email your child’s math teacher directly.

Welcome, Shamone Wilson!
This is my 10th year in education and my 1st year working here at Davis. I’ve worked in Plano ISD for a year and half prior to recently joining the Wylie family. During my professional career, I’ve worked in school districts in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Maryland, and Texas as a Special Education Teacher for 2 years and a School Counselor for 8 years. I truly enjoy being a Counselor! I get to assist and support students in their academic, personal, and social and emotional learning and development through guidance lessons, individual counseling, and small group support. I also get to collaborate with my administrative team, teachers, and parents in helping to prepare our students in becoming our future leaders of tomorrow. It is my absolute privilege to be able to help serve my school and community. I’ve been married to my wonderful and supportive husband, Shaun, for 16 years. We have one son named Landon who is in first grade at Bush Elementary in Wylie, our adorable fur baby named Marissa, and we are so thrilled to be expecting our second child in July. We are a PROUD retired military family that has relocated to the city of St. Paul in the summer of 2017. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, shopping, and exercising! I’m very excited to join the Davis family! Go, Marauders!
