Methacton baseball just completed our first week of practices outside as a varsity and JV program after the week of tryouts. We begin game play this week at Upper Moreland on 3/18 and at home vs. Lansdale Catholic on 3/20. We are very much looking forward to starting our non-league schedule this week and our conference schedule the week of 4/1.
GO WARRIORS!
Upcoming Events:
Monday 3/18 - Game vs. Upper Moreland (AWAY)
Wednesday 3/20 - Game vs. Lansdale Catholic (HOME)
Boys Lacrosse
The boys kicked off their second week by winning both scrimmages, one being a hard fought home win vs Unionville and the other being an impressive show out @ PW. We enter week three looking to start the season strong with our opener being Monday night.
Standout player from week 2: senior Ryan Bove
Upcoming Events:
Monday 3/18 - Game vs. CB South (AWAY)
Friday 3/22 - Game vs. Wissahickon (AWAY)
Girls Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse opened their 2024 season with a scrimmage against Pennridge and the 1st game of the season against Upper Dublin. Though the game with Upper Dublin was lost by Methacton there were a lot of positives for a young and growing team that is learning to work together.
This season the Varsity captains are Lily DeWan and Giada Catoia. The JV Captains are Eleanor Rothgob and Laura Blake. Both teams are young, talented and excited to play and there is a lot of learning on the field that will be happening.
We lost some talented players to graduation and are working to move forward and be a force to reckon with as we get into league play. Next game is against Wissahickon at home on March 22nd.
Upcoming Events:
Friday 3/22 - Game vs. Wissahickon (HOME)
Softball
The softball team went on the road to face a very good Downingtown East team on Friday. The Lady Warriors came up a little short in a 4-0 loss.
Some first game jitters showed as the team allowed 3 runs in the first inning, but then held their opponent to just 1 run for the rest of the game.
Courtney Freese recorded 9 strikeouts in her first performance from the pitchers circle.
Sydney Hockenbrock went 2-3 with a double and a single. Mia Pettine also had 2 hits and a stolen base.
The team has two home games this week. Tuesday vs Pennridge and Friday vs. CB South. Two great opportunities to get a victory.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday 3/19 - Game vs. Pennridge (HOME)
Friday 3/22 - Game vs. CB South (HOME)
Saturday 3/23 - Softball Clinic @ Methacton HS - see flyer below for details
Boys Tennis
The Warriors had a good week of practice and had their first scrimmage of the season. The boys fell short to Radnor with a 6-1 loss however 5 of the 7 matches went to 3 sets so overall it was a tight match giving the boys some great experience as we go into this week with our first round of league matches. The 3 league matches for us this week will be against Norristown, Phoenixville and Boyertown.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday 3/19 - Match vs. Norristown (HOME)
Thursday 3/21 - Match vs. Phoenixville (AWAY)
Boys Track & Field
The boy's spring track team features a young squad after graduating a historic group of seniors. The group has been working hard and is excited for their competitive season to start in a few weeks.
Wesley Conover returns for his senior year after placing 5th at last year's district 1 AAA meet, a result that qualified him for the PIAA state championships, where he placed 25th in the 100m prelims.
The team features many returning medalist's and scorers from last year's PAC conference meet. The young team will lean on their experience.
Charlie Reith 2nd place 4x800m relay.
Akhil Yeluri 5th place 3200
Matthew Sandner 5th place 1600
Wesley Conover 5th place 100m dash
Nico Lumbrano 8th place Discus
Jr Yasser Jarhale has shown impressive versatility over the winter months, PRing in the 400m dash and HJ. He hopes to bring this momentum into the spring, where he should also have a role on the 4x1 relay.
Ray Tai, Brody Mellow, Jackson Graham and Dishawn Shakes all join Wesley Conover after qualifying for the PAC championships in 2023. This young group will hope to fill the big shoes left by the graduating class of 2023.
The team should also see many points scored from a deep roster of distance runners that return after qualifying for PAC competition last year (Charlie Reith, Matthew Sandner, Akhil Yeluri, Curtis Alexander, Mitchell Alexander, Tyler Rifkin, Colin O'Donnell and Quinn Kumfert). Also joining the mix will be Freshman Jason Nagle and Brock Yoder, as well as Ben Freese and Nathan Alex.
Seniors Nico Lumbrano and Abel Robles look to lead a throws group that is much improved. Nico and JR David Burnett both threw 41 feet in the shot indoors, which is 5 feet further than any thrower from the last 3 years. Logan Courtney will return to throw Javelin for his senior year after qualifying for PACs last year.
The boy's hope to open up their season with a win on 3/26.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday 3/26 - Meet vs. Norristown (HOME)
Girls Track & Field
Week 2 of practice went great, the girls continued to work hard in the beautiful weather. Our returning girls have been doing a wonderful job supporting our new girls as they learn the ropes of high school track & field!
On Saturday, 49 girls traveled to Phoenixville High School for our first invitational meet. This was a very large meet that allowed teams to have a "scrimmage-like" meet early in the season. A few key mentions from our meet:
- Summer Mellow placed 1st in the girls' 100m and ran a 12.26. Summer also placed 1st in the Girls' Long Jump and jumped 18-09.00.
Kenslee O'Donnell placed 2nd in the Girls' 100m Hurdlers with a time of 16.16!
In a very tight 400m Dash, Kate Thomas came in 3rd place with a time of 1:01.39!
Caroline Welsh came in 3rd place and threw a 30-11.50 in the Girls' Shot Put!
Sage Bowman hit a PR of 101'0 in the Javelin (her first time over 100!). She came in 3rd place!
In a very exciting & competitive 4x400 relay, Kate Thomas, Jules Trigone, Aubery Beaugard, and Kenslee O'Donnell came in first place!
A special shoutout to Maryame Faouzi for stepping in a 4x400 relay when one of her teammates got injured!
Way to go Ladies!!
The Phoenixville Meet also offered the opportunity of a Tanker 4x1 Relay. Our tanker relay consisted of Angela Wang, Emily Schwertfeger, Cassidy Lindsey, and Aselle Zabun. These four ladies typically compete in throwing events, but they did a wonderful job in their 4x1 relay!
This week we are going to continue to work hard as we prepare for Norristown on 3/26, the girls will have off from practice on 3/22 so they can attend Minithon!!! #FTK
