Emmanuel Catholic College
College Newsletter - Term 4 Week 9 - 9 December 2016
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Students and College Community,
The 2016 Academic Year has quickly drawn to a conclusion. It has been an exciting year for the College and we are anticipating the availability of our new Science Laboratories and the commencement of the construction of our new contemporary Visual Arts/English Teaching and Learning building. These facilities are outstanding resources that the whole community will enjoy for many years to come. I thank our Business Manager, Sonja Matthes for taking on the role as Project Manager for these buildings.
The College will continue to grow in numbers in 2017 and currently we are expecting that our total population will topple a 1000 students. Our enrolments in the years following are already strong and I urge families to enrol siblings as soon as possible. It is really pleasing to know that so many new families are very keen to join our community and I look forward to the positive contribution that they and existing students will bring to Emmanuel in 2017.
We will have some staff who are leaving at the end of this year and they are: Mrs Bronwyn Benjamin, Mrs Anne Marie Frazier, Mr James Toop, Mrs Belinda Colpitts, Mrs Sara Silic and Mrs Sue Hale. Mrs Megan Mentz is taking a year’s leave and Mrs Christine Williams has extended her leave for 2017. We thank them for their service to our College and wish them well for their future.
Our Heads of Year for 2017 are:
Mrs Vicki Price - Year 7
Mrs Sue Kennedy - Year 8
Mr Troy Foote - Year 9
Mr Michael Rathmann - Year 10
Mrs Domanique O’Reilly - Year 11
Mrs Lee-Anne Marroccoli - Year 12
Semester Two Reports for all Year groups will be available shortly via SEQTA.
Finally, to the parents, staff and students of the College thank you for another great year. Next year promises to bring lots of excitement with many new initiatives for all community members.
I wish you all a very special and blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
God Bless,
Mr Leo Di Gregorio - Principal

Reporting
As we come to an end of the academic year, it is important that all information pertaining to your child’s education becomes available. Reports for students will become available via the parent portal, SEQTA Engage. Year 10 Reports were released today and parents/ guardians can access their reports now. Year 7, 8 and 9 parents/guardians will be able to access their children’s reports from Tuesday afternoon.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s academic results, these should be directed to the subject teacher. Any issues or concerns regarding Form class should be directed to the Form teacher.
I encourage families to read through the reports carefully, celebrating the achievements attained throughout the year as well as reflecting upon the areas of improvement required. Look at the attributes and set realistic goals that should be used to potentially improve upon their results in the new year.
Embrace the opportunities on offer at Emmanuel Catholic College, and as our Core Values state;
- Strive to show respect, compassion and service to others during this Christmas break.
- Look at ways to strive for excellence in the new year.
- Treat our families with consistency and fairness.
- And during this Christmas time where we celebrate the birth of Jesus, endeavour to model Christ in our behaviour over our holiday period.
On behalf of the Deputy Principals, Mr Peter Sackett, Mr Joseph Cordina and myself, we wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas.
God Bless,
Mr Vince Bellini - Deputy Principal
END OF YEAR MESSAGE FROM CEWA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DR TIM McDONALD
YEAR 9 BUSH RANGERS CAMP - ROTTNEST ISLAND
This week the Year 9 Bush Rangers Camp was conducted at Rottnest Island from Monday to Wednesday. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to participate in a series of educational activities examining the flora, fauna and history of Rottnest Island. Once the students had set up camp on Monday morning, it was a frenetic pace as we moved from activity to activity.
Rottnest is recognised internationally as a unique environment, and the students were required to review the Island’s conservation practices to conserve and enhance the natural environment. The students were provided with presentations on coastal management from Marine Engineer, Joanna Garcia-Webb, settlement and military history from the Island Volunteer Historians, plus the Indigenous history from Miss Chloe Collard.
Each student was also required to give a brief presentation on Rottnest fauna, flora and history topics. These student presentations were very informative and a great way to practice public speaking.
Of course there was also some arduous hard work. The students did have to go swimming at the aqua fun park, ride around the Island and go to the movies. Thanks to the staff who assisted with the camp, Miss Lugton, Mrs Hall, Mrs Bhamgara, Mr Cordina and Mr Ryan.
Mr Steve Prigg - Bush Rangers Coordinator

Enrolments at Emmanuel have become very competitive and places for 2017 are now full. Interviews for 2018 started at the beginning of the year and students will now be placed on a waiting list. If there are any Siblings that haven’t been enrolled, parents may risk missing out on a place for their child.
Applications for Year 7 2019 are now due, and we would encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. Interviews commence next year and places are very competitive. Parents with siblings especially need to make sure they have applied.
Please email our Registrar on enrolments@emmanuel.wa.edu.au for further information.
Catholic students will be given preference as per our Enrolment Policy.
IS YOUR CHILD RETURNING IN 2017?
Can you please notify the College Registrar if your child is not returning to the College in 2017? If you could please email Mrs Kelly Lister on eccenrolments@emmanuel.wa.edu.au to notify us in writing of your child exiting in 2017. The College policy requires parents to provide one term’s notice of a student exiting. In situations where this policy is not adhered to, a term’s fees will be charged.

2017 FEES AND CHARGES
To assist your preparation for the coming year, this is the Schedule of Fees & Charges for 2017. The College Board has spent considerable time reviewing our current financial position and future growth. The College Board has endeavoured to keep increases as low as possible and has approved a 4% Tuition Fee and Building Fund levy increase.
The excellent resources we currently enjoy is due to the Building Levy contributions from past and present families. All money received for the Building Levy allows the continuation of the College Capital Development Plan announced at the College Presentation Night. This ensures our debt is manageable and our students continue to be educated in contemporary facilities.
For queries about the Fees and Charges please contact:
Mrs Sonja Matthes, Business Manager – matthes.sonja@emmanuel.wa.edu.au.

This beautiful, sacred pre-Christmas event will be held at The Basilica of St Patrick in Fremantle on Thursday 15 December at 7pm and will finish at about 8.15pm.
This inaugural concert is based around the Christmas Celebration that the Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster has held for many years, and also the Nine Lessons and Carols service. We hope that this sacred evening will help to counter the commercialisation of Christmas, will inspire both the Fremantle community and the wider Perth community and that it will become an iconic part of the cultural scene in the build up to Christmas.
Proceeds from the event will be directed towards Catholic Mission’s work in providing assistance and support for refugee communities and children who are affected by the conflicts in Africa and the Middle East, hence the title of the event and the synergy of this with the Christmas gospel story of a refugee family fleeing persecution.
Enrolments are now open for Three-Year-Old Kindergarten to Year 5
