Palacios Elementary Reading Rock Star School 2013-2016
Palacios Elementary welcomes Nathan Hale, James Luna and Matt Tavares!
James Luna, Matt Tavares, and Nathan Hale visited Palacios Elementary on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Each presentation was dynamic! The authors were wonderful presenters. Thank you for such awesome presentations!
James Luna, author of The Place Where You Live/ El lugar donde vives presented to PK, Kinder and first grade. "JAMES LUNA is an elementary school teacher in Riverside, California. He has written two bilingual picture books for children, The Place Where You Live / El lugar donde vives (Piñata Books, 2015), and The Runaway Piggy / El cochinito fugitivo (Piñata Books, 2010), which was named to the 2011-2012 Tejas Star Reading List. A Mummy in Her Backpack / Una momia en su mochila (Piñata Books, 2012) is his first bilingual book for intermediate readers."
Matt Tavares author of Growing Pedro presented to second and third graders. "Matt Tavares is the author-illustrator of Henry Aaron's Dream, There Goes Ted Williams, Becoming Babe Ruth, and Growing Up Pedro, as well as Zachary's Ball, Oliver's Game, and Mudball. He is the illustrator of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Over the River and Through the Wood, Lady Liberty by Doreen Rappaport, The Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup, and Jubilee! by Alicia Potter. Matt Tavares lives in Ogunquit, Maine."
Nathan Hale, author of Hazardous Tales, presented to fourth and fifth grade.
"Nathan Hale is the author and illustrator of the Eisner-nominated, New York Times-bestselling graphic novel series on American history, Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales. He is the illustrator of the graphic novel Rapunzel's Revenge and its sequel, Calamity Jack. He also illustrated Frankenstein: A Monstrous Parody, and many others."
All students received a book by the author. They were sponsored by the Texas Book Festival.

Dr. Seuss's Birthday Celebration Literacy Night
March 1, 2016
Students and parents attended the birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss at Panther cafeteria.
Activities for every grade level were held at each of the eight reading stations. Cake was served in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Thank you to the teachers and the literacy team that participated in the event. A special thank you to Mrs. Villanueva and parent volunteers for the Dr. Seuss decorations. Also, thank you to our custodial staff for helping with the set up and take down of the decorations.

Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast- March 2, 2016
Mrs. Linda Hinojosa, Palacios Librarian, in collaboration with the PSJA Child Nutrition Program planned a Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham celebration on March 2, 2016. The breakfast not only commemorated Dr. Seuss, but promoted the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast. While the students ate their breakfast a surprise visit was made by The Cat in the Hat at Panther Cafeteria. A special thank you to our Panther cafeteria staff Ms. Soto, Ms. Garza, Ms. Alvarez and Ms. Benavides. Thank you to all who participated in the event.
