Love, Grow, Teach, Eastside
Week of February 12th
Eastside Mission
A Team Makes a Miracle
I had a great encounter with a 4th grade student last week. I had walked in a classroom to observe and the student turned around and said, "Mrs. Dunlap, did you hear about my growth on MAP?" I had looked at his score that morning and heard the report of his awesome growth on progress monitoring! He and I gave each other knuckles and his smile was priceless. You all are making moments like that happen every day! Keep up the awesome work!
We honored Ms. Hogg last week! She is such a vital part of our school!
Anchor of the Week: Ms. Barnhart
To Do List for the Week:
1. Team time happens this Monday for all grades including support staff. We will continue working on the four critical questions by developing our units and CFAs. Ms. Bailey will be working with all teams. Remember, we will not have team time next week.
2. With parent teacher conferences next week, it's time this week to get our hallways decked out with student work. This is another way to tell our story by displaying all the great activities that have been happening, since we came back from break. Parents spend time in our hallways on this night and they are reading and looking at ALL classroom work! Make sure to consider the rigor of an assignment you are displaying. Ms. Gordon has done a great job displaying the artwork in the building, so the rest of us need to display content-rich assignments.
3. Turn in your conference schedules to Ms. Patty by the end of day on Tuesday. Progress Reports will be given to parents during conferences. Start all conversations out saying something positive about the student, then hit the key points, then finish with another positive. If you have a student who struggles, make sure you have materials to go home with the parent on conference night. Lots of great items in the parent center. Use the resources to support students and families. Make sure to have your student-led part ready and be available for parents. We will be providing an Italian meal for you.
4. Make sure your classroom doors are locked at all times. Ms. Wallace and I found several doors unlocked or completely left open this past week.
5. No Global PD this week.
6. Take a look at your objective/essential question you are posting. This should not be listed as a task, activity, or list of items to complete. It should have verbs and wording from the standards students are learning. Be sure to refer to this objective/I can statement prior to starting the lesson. This helps students' brains make a connection for learning.
7. MAP PM will be grades K and 1 this week. Dibel PM for 3-5.
8. SIT commenting on grades K-2.

Reminders/Updates
- February 12-16 District Jean Week fundraiser for storm damage for school personnel (Pay your $10 this week to Ms. Patty for your jeans next week.) You may wear jeans the day of conferences, but bring professional dress to change into for that night.
- PTO Meeting this Tuesday. Your presence is always welcomed at these meetings.
- Prek through 4th grade may have parents send in Valentine boxes for students to use during the party on February 14th. As in years past, 5th grade may bring Valentines for every child in their class but will not bring in boxes. Make sure that students bring a valentine for each child in the class. (Let Ms. Hogg know if there are any students that cannot bring valentines and she can help you out.)
- Wednesday Valentine Parties starting at 2:00pm. Please remind parents that NO homemade goodies can be brought! Due to parties, here is an adjusted schedule, so 1st and Kindergarten can get some prep time on that day. K will go to block at 8:30am. 1st grade will go to block at 1:20pm. Support Staff will take lunch during one of their earlier intervention times. I will send that schedule out to support staff separately. Ms. Turner and Ms. Landrith will be helping to watch classes during party time, so the many staff members who are moms can go to their child's classroom. This means there will not be afternoon recesses from 2:00 pm until the end of the day.
- Eastside News: Ms. Barnhart's fifth grade TAG class will be sending out the news for the following week on Thursdays. Everyone needs to watch the news within the first couple of minutes of arriving to class from PROWL every day. While students are watching the news, you can take lunch count, role, and have students mark their attendance in their data folder. Observe the moment of silence following the news. Instruction will begin at 8:30.
- Reading lesson plans need to be on your reading table. Your lesson plans need to be out visible on your desks, so we can easily look at them. Make sure you are meeting with all students daily that are not on level. Also, be sure that you are using their instructional level during reading group not their independent level.
- Make sure your classroom door is locked at all times. Help out with any subs around you to keep their doors locked as well.
- EES Gets Fit is under weigh. Cross Fit has offered free sessions for EES staff on February 22, March 8 *Classes will start at 4:00. Jazzercise has offered free sessions for our staff as well. Feb. 27 and March 15.Classes start at 4:00-4:40.A drawing at each class will be held for 1 MONTH FREE classes to Jazzercise of Greenbrier. And, if you sign up during one of the FREE classes, you may join for just $35 with NO joining fee, a $50 value!
- Curriculum Day agenda has been sent out. Please make sure you have everything on the list that is needed. It will be at Springhill. Remember what I said on Friday about sharing your ideas, but don't let your passion take a negative tone. Every time we are with the district, it's another chance to tell our story. Let's make a good one!
