2022 October PCS Parent Newsletter
Homework Helps!
Pelham City School has developed a hand out to give support and assistance to basically support parents navigating homework help. The document is available to download below this article.
We want to share this guide which will help parents access Parent Portal and all the instructional resources/software our school already owns or can access for free. The Parent Portal is also where the SLDS or State Longitude Data System can be accessed, which offers resources for each grade level and for each standard in each content area. Check out the Communities in Schools in Georgia (CISGA)website which is loaded with helpful resources and has also created the Parent Homework Checklist, which you can access below with the other resources shown. Educational Websites for Families and Educational APPs for Families are resources brought to us by the GADOE. All of these informational guides and more are also accessible on this PCS Parent and Family Engagement hot link.
Another aspect of making homework time effective and fun is having a set place that students can claim as their study area, with their materials and quiet space that lends itself to uninterrupted studying! Check out a few ideas posted on Pinterest recently on the Homework Station Hints button below.

READ, READ, READ!
If you as a parent or care giver are a struggling reader yourself or know someone who is, stop by our Parent Involvement Resource Center (see hours of operation below) and discover what resources we have for adult literacy and how we might point you in direction for help. If you are someone who needs to get their GED or General Education Development Test please check out the information provided about free GED classes in our local area by Southern Regional.
In an attempt to encourage more reading at home the PES PTO and Parent Engagement program have established the Monthly Reading Challenge for grades 1-5 and PK & Kindergarten. A new challenge will be sent home each month and the former Reading Buddies Program will merge with this reading initiative and students who have completed the reading challenge from now until Christmas break will receive the Reading Buddies Tee-shirt for themselves and their reading partner!
Your Input Needed!
This funding helps "level the playing field" so to speak for successful academic student outcomes. As a part of the requirements for the continuation of our funding we are required to obtain parent input into our Parent and Family Engagement Program. In order to give as many opportunities as possible for parents and community input, we are imbedding a new Parent & Community Input Form in this newsletter. The survey below is brief but very helpful in our planning and implementing effective parent activities and strategies. Please take a moment to complete the survey and to thank you for your time parents that submit surveys this month will be entered in a drawing for a Wal-Mart Gift Card!
