eAchieve Academy March Newsletter
Welcome
Happy March!
Spring and spring break are right around the corner!
If you’re keeping track, the spring equinox is Tuesday March 19th. We hope everyone is enjoying the weather and longer daylight hours!!
As we are moving through Week 8, we are basically at the half-way point of the semester already! We are looking closely at student participation as we prepare our third quarter report cards.
Here are some reminders about participation at eAchieve:
In an ideal scenario, students are working in their classes for about 35-40 hours each week, and attending the live eSessions for each subject. They are submitting work the week it's due or perhaps within one week of the weekly schedule due date. As a result, they are making good and steady progress in their classes by engaging in their learning and submitting assignments which serve as the evidence of their learning.
Students with IEP’s are doing the same as well as attending their 1:1 student support sessions with their special education teachers. This is where they receive their specially designed instruction so it's crucial that they attend these sessions and their classes.
One of the best parts of virtual learning at eAchieve is the flexible schedule, and it's also one of the most challenging aspects of our school. While the flexible schedule allows students to do other things, or manage personal challenges, it can also allow students to not engage in their learning and not submit work on a consistent basis. As a result, students don’t make good and steady progress in their courses, feel that they are ‘behind’ and then have to scramble over the last few weeks of the semester. This all results in students not learning and getting a good education.
Unfortunately, some students fall so far off pace and participate so little that their enrollment is ended and they have to return to their resident school district. This is because participation is a condition of enrollment to attend eAchieve. Of course, this is the last choice for us. We have a wide range of strategies, interventions, supports and ideas to help motivate students to engage students in their learning and in turn, support them academically when more help is needed.
So, what can you do to avoid any non-participation issues?
1. Find a good place in your house to work, not in bed or in the places you relax. Get up and get ready and it will help you feel like you’re ‘going to school’!
2. Log in every morning when you begin your day (start no later than 10 am) and check your school email and respond to those needing a response.
3. Open your google calendar and create a plan for the day or week, by entering events such as “English 9 eSession” or “work on Human Geography Assessment”. In fact, you could set a calendar each week and then just follow it each day!
4. Login to Blackboard, and, following your calendar, pick the class you decided to work on and get started for the day.
5. Set a timer to the start of your eSessions so you can log in on time.
6. At the end of the day, check off what work you’ve submitted, check your email one more time and create a plan for the next day.
If students follow this schedule 4-5 days of a 7 day week, you will not only make good and steady progress, but you’ll also pass all of your classes, learn a great deal and feel really good about the progress you’ve made!
Another part of participation is self advocacy, which means letting teachers or staff know when you need help or have some challenges that are impacting your learning. We know everyone experiences difficulties at some point during the year, and when we don’t know, it’s hard to help. Even if you aren’t comfortable sharing personal information, letting us know that you are experiencing some challenges and/or what help you may need will really help your teachers do whatever they can to support you.
Finally, we understand that you chose eAchieve for the flexibility and we are so happy you are here. We ask that you please remember that flexibility doesn’t mean not engaging or submitting assignments, as it's our job to ensure you get a good education and we need every student to engage, participate and continue to build your personal resilience.
Have a wonderful Spring Break and safe travels for those heading on an adventure!

Quarter Progress Reports
Teachers are completing progress reports during Week 9 and 10. Progress Reports will be mailed home after their completion on 4/4.
Since this will be the only progress report mailed home this semester, we ask you to review it together as a family and make a plan to stay on pace or to get back on track until the end of the semester. One strategy that many families are finding helpful is to use the google calendar that is part of students' gmail accounts. By scheduling time on their calendars for learning, studying, work completion, and eSession attendance, and sharing them with the family, students are able to see their learning pathway each week. In turn, parents can check and provide reminders or inquiries about progress towards specific goals or scheduled events keeping things positive and productive for everyone.
