Warrior News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
SEPTEMBER 13, 2019
Greetings Warrior Families and Friends,
What a week! Huge thank you to the nearly 500 friends and families that came in to experience our Warriors Welcome event on Wednesday night. The strong partnership between our school and our families is one of the main factors that makes Muskego High School a very special place to be a part of.
This week we also had nearly 1300 students complete a practice ACT or a preACT. This experience provides important information for us to work with students on specifics targets for growth and also aides in the Academic and Career Planning (ACP) process. The results from the test will be shared with our students sometime within the next 4 weeks. We will keep you posted when they arrive so you can engage in conversations with your student(s) about how this process benefited them. If you have specific questions about the testing results, please connect with your student’s school counselor.
Have a great weekend and I hope to see you soon.
Go Warriors!

Principal
Coming Up Next Week
Student Services will be offering an opportunity for students to build their organizational and executive functioning skills through an all day workshop on September 17th in room 234. We have seen an increased need for organization, prioritization, and planning.
We will be running 50 minute sessions throughout the day on Tuesday, September 17th. Each session will include 3 support stations. These stations will support creating an organizational system, academic planner, and backpack organization. Students can attend one or all of the stations as we will be rotating through these during each session. Students should attend a session during their study hall, lunch, or during another course with teacher permission.
Any questions please contact Julia Rutkowski, Susan Schuett, Tiana Fleischman, or Christine Knapp in Student Services

Student Services Topic of the Month: Grief and Loss
Unfortunately for too many teenagers, death and the resulting grief are part of everyday life. By the end of high school, 5 percent of today’s students will have lost one of their parents by the end of high school, and 20 percent will have experienced the death of someone close by age 18. When surveyed, 90% say they have experienced the death of a loved one.¹

Student Drop-Off
We recommend Doors 10 and 16 as drop off locations for our families who drive their students to MHS. Our main entrance, Door 1, has very limited space and traffic can back up onto Racine Ave. Additionally, parents often find it difficult to re-enter traffic onto Racine Ave. Utilizing Door 10 or 16 still provides close access for students and Woods Road is typically much easier/safer for families as they exit. Thank you in advance for your support.

Cell Phone Use & Digital Citizenship
A focus at our school this year is on improving digital citizenship, which includes the appropriate use of cell phones during the school day. In an effort to increase student engagement and promote a positive learning environment, MHS has increased its focus on appropriate cell phone use during school hours. Providing guidelines for responsible cell phone use promotes classroom engagement, encourages academic honesty, and develops positive classroom and social interactions. For more information, review the Policy 5136 - Personal Communication Device.
