Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Our Student Advisor Council met on Thursday for our monthly meeting. They were asked to name one thing that they feel is going well. This is what they had to say:
e-Hall Pass: They feel that the use of e-Hall Pass has helped significantly with crowd control in the bathroom. They have noticed a lot less issues in the bathrooms such as students vaping or being mean to each other. They feel a lot safer when going to the bathroom as there always are less people there.
Vaping: Students report a significant decrease of vaping in the bathroom. They have stated that they now rarely see students smoking compared to first semester.
Fights: Students report that there has been a lot less fights this semester compared to last semester and even last year.
Safety: Students report that they feel safer in the hallways (6th grade in particular) because they don’t have to navigate hallways with so many kids in it.
Band: Students feel that Band class is going much better compared to last year. They were excited to finally be able to play instruments.
I also asked students to name one thing that they feel we could be doing better. This is what they said:
e-Hall Pass: They reported that there are not enough passes for people to go to the bathroom and that teachers do not monitor how long students are out. They reported that this forces many of them to have to wait for a long time because the same kids are using the passes.
Celebrations: They reported that they feel that many of them are doing all of the right things but they are not being recognized (KORT was mentioned). They feel that they should also be recognized for always showing ARMOR.
Our initial data indicates that this perception is accurate. We are also planning a school wide celebration of learning for S1 next week in which we will celebrate students' academic and socio-emotional growth.
We will continue to monitor e-Hall implementation and behavior data to assess our impact on student outcomes.
