Balclutha Primary School - T3 Wk 9
Newsletter 23 September 2022
Principal's Report
Four days to go! We have a lot of very tired students and staff who are looking forward to the long weekend ahead and the term break only a week away. We still have a busy last week of term, and Pet Day on Friday will be a lovely way to finish the term.
At last night's Board of Trustees meeting we looked at our Term 3 Key Competency data. The focus for this term has been participating and contributing. This involves our students developing their ability to actively participate and contribute to all aspects of school life, including learning, sporting and social activities.
Staff have identified that we currently have 78% of all our students at Balclutha Primary School participating and contributing either within or beyond expectations for their year level. This level has remained consistent with achievement levels last year. As part of analysing the data, our teachers have identified actions moving forward that will help more of our students reach expectations. This includes an increase in cross school whānau type activities, and deliberately teaching students the skills they need to effectively participate and contribute in their learning.
We will collect data again in Term 3 2023 to analyse the effectiveness of programmes.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave

Tēnā koutou,
The Malcam Charitable Trust is holding a low-cost bicycle sale event during the school holidays, on the 11th of October to support the community to purchase low-cost, good quality and safe secondhand bicycles. These bicycles have been saved from landfill and have been given new life through our experienced bicycle mechanics who also tutor rakatahi to learn new skills in the process.
The Bikes@Malcam programme also enables tamariki and rakatahi to swap their bicycles once they have outgrown them if they bring them back to Malcam. The more bicycles out of landfill, the more we build a better environmental future.
