A Message from the Principal
This week I will open the Cavalier Contact with recognition for the CHS Cavalier Players for their wonderfull performances this weekend with the musical, Once On This Island. The students and staff did a wonderful job with this musical and we appreciate all of the hard work from Ms. McCormick!!
This issue of the Cavalier Contact has essential information about student recognitions, student events, the Cook Center Resources, events, spring sports, and more. Varsity Tutors
CCPS is excited to announce that high-quality, division-sponsored (FREE to YOU), virtual remediation and homework help is back! Varsity Tutors has replaced FEV in providing all schools in grades 3-12 access to 24/7 on demand tutoring, on demand essay editing and coaching, college prep admissions materials, and self study practice resources. The Seniors are the 2024 Powder Puff Champs!!
Congratulations to the Seniors as they won the 2023-2024 Powder Puff Championship this past Friday night at CHS. They were guided by Coach Johnson and Coach Anderson.
SOL Schedule for Spring 2024
- May 6th, 2024- EOC Reading is for students enrolled in English 11 and Honors English 11.
- May 7th, 2024- The Algebra I SOL is for students enrolled in Algebra I and AFDA
- May 8th, 2024- The Biology SOL is for students enrolled in Biology.
- May 9th, 2024- Testing will be for those who have not earned a Science or Math verified credit or are in 9th grade taking this course for the first time in High School. Subjects are Earth Science, Geometry, Algebra II, and Chemistry.
- If you are not sure if you are testing please be sure to ask your teacher.
- Testing will start at 7:45 am daily for CHS and Virtual Students.
- Your testing location will be provided to your 1st-period teacher, and you will receive it via email closer to the testing dates.
- Please bring a fully-charged Chromebook with you to testing each day.
Freshmen Service Learning Week a Success!!
Bowling Green Health Center
Students visited the health center and provided support and company during service learning week.
CMS
The CHS Fershmen provided some landscaping help at CMS.
Lotus
The Service Learning Team visited Lotus Academy and helped paint the bleachers.

- Germanna Bound Seniors - Applications are now open for Germanna Scholarships!Apply for over 70 scholarships through one brief application and automatically get matched to all available scholarships. At the end of the application process, you’ll be able to see every scholarship for which you qualify. As a requirement to complete the scholarship application, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify. Afterschool Library Hours
The CHS is open for students each Tuesday afternoon from 2:45 pm until 5:30 pm. Students may take the activity bus if they do not have a ride. Students must remain in the Library the entire time unless they are with a staff member or are picked up by a parent of guardian.

Powder Puff Football 2024
CONGRATULATIONS SENIOR CLASS!
Baseball
Varsity Baseball traveled to Mechanicsville HS last Wednesday night. Our Cavaliers fought hard to come back and tie the game but fell short on a walk-off hit by MHS. Final score was 5-6.
JV Baseball played twice last week going 1-1. The boys lost to Rappahannock HS on Monday but turned it around on Wednesday night beating Mechanicsville HS 5-3.

Softball
Our Cavalier Varsity Softball Team bounced back in a positive way to beat Mechanicsville HS 4-2 on Wednesday night. On Monday they dropped a hard fought game at Rappahannock HS 1-2.
JV Softball played hard against Rappahannock HS on Monday but dropped the game 4-10.

Track & Field
The track meet was held at James Monroe High School last Wednesday. The boy's team placed third with 75 points, and the girl's team placed first with 118 points. The meet was cut short because of the starting gun and the darkness. Here are the results for the boys who placed in the top eight places;
- Leland Hartley 2nd in the 100-meter dash; Will Lunn 2nd in the 800-meter run; Matthew Dudenhefer 1st in the 1600-meter run and pole vault; Donte Hurte 8th in the 110-meter high hurdlers; Rashawn Morris 1st in the 300-meter intermediate hurdlers; Tavare Terrell 8th in the long jump; Gavis Davis 4th in the triple jump; Vladimir Joacin 2nd in the shot.
- Arthur Duke, Will Lunn, Dorian Martin, and Matthew Dudenhefer placed second in the four-by-800-meter relay.
- Tashuan Griffiths, Tavare Terrell, Tayshon Terrell, and Leland Hartley placed third in the four-by-100-meter relay.
- Rashawn Morris, Juelz Berryman, Tavare Terrell, and Tashuan Griffiths placed first in the four-by-400-meter relay.
Here are the results for the girls team;
- Alysha Colemen 4th in the 100-meter dash; Kennedy Jones 7th in the 100-meter dash; Tiyasia Terrell 1st in the 400-meter dash; Ariya Bolden 6th in the 400-meter dash, and 5th in the triple jump; Danica Sale 2nd in the 1600- meter run and 1st in the 800-meter run; Kayla Veney 1st in the 100-meter high hurdles and 2nd in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Aldreyah Goodall 3rd in the 100-meter high hurdles; Jayla Ruffner 7th in the 100-meter high hurdles; Nina Torres 5th in the 300-meter intermediates hurdles; Makia Herndon 6th in the high jump, 7th in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump; Lilyanah Johnson 2nd in the shot; Riley Forehand 3rd in the shot; Alaiya Tompkins 5th in the shot.
- Alysha Coleman, Tinyia Terrell, Kayala Veney, and Kennedy Jones placed first in the four-by-100-meter relay.
- Danica Sale, Alysha Coleman, Tinyia Terrell, and Lilyanah Johnson placed first in the four-by-400-meter relay.
The following members of the track team have met the state 4A standards, which means that they have qualified for the state championship: Lilyanah Johnson in the shot, Kayla Veney in the 100-meter high hurdles, Leland Hartley in the 100-meter dash, and the team of Alysha Coleman, Tinyia Terrell, Kayla Veney, and Kennedy Jones for the girl's four-by-100-meter relay.
The team's next track meet will be at Courtland High School on Wednesday, March 27th.
