Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Taylor Crumpton
The novel
In the novel the focus is on NIck and Norah finding one another, and their favorite band who is having a surprise show in one of the New York City neighborhoods. It is a coming of age story set in my generation's time and it gave me a chance to live through Norah and have a character that was like me.
The film
In the film the story transforms from a coming of age story to a chase for the band and Norah's drunk friend Caroline who escaped from Nick friends hold. It felt like an indie romantic comedy than Nick and Norah finding themselves in New York City.
Changes
Tris
In the novel she had a sense of humanity to her even though she broke Nick's heart while in the film she was portrayed as a snobby rich girl who felt entitled to do whatever she wanted to Nick.
Nick and Norah
In the novel Nick asks Norah out to be his girlfriend for five minutes to upset Tris while they are at a show. In the film Norah asks out Nick to be her boyfriend for five minutes after she drunk kisses him at the show.
Nick's Friends
In the novel the friends didn't have a much of a role and in the film the friends had a major role in helping Nick and Norah find one another.
