It's Show Time!

Webster Thomas High School Presents The 39 Steps!
When Alfred Hitchcock adapted John Buchan’s spy novel thriller, he understood that humor and danger are a great combination (you can see it in varying degrees throughout Hitch’s long career from the silent days to the 1970’s). Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of the movie leans much more heavily into the humor and has often been described as “Hitchcock meets Monty Python”. Like some of the best Monty Python sketches, characters in The 39 Steps seem to be very much aware that they’re in a play; the original production only used four actors who would simply swap hats and change their voices to create dozens of characters.
This, along with the bare bones set, creates unique comic and technical challenges that we wanted our cast and crew to solve. The 39 Steps should be a rite of passage for all high school theater students – something they can talk about for years as they brag about how they built a car, climbed across the Firth of Forth Bridge, or covered long costume changes with a ground-breaking special effects-heavy biplane attack.
Many of our actors and crew members are taking the stage for the first time. We’re proud of them and the work they’ve done and look forward to what they’re going to do next.
The show runs tonight and Saturday in the Webster Thomas Auditorium at 7:30pm. For a mere $10 ticket, you can come out and support these talented kids! Tickets are available at the door, and from HomeTown Ticketing (there's also a QR code on the poster linked below).

Thomas Earns Silver Medal AP School Honor Roll
The AP School Honor Roll, which replaces the previous AP District Honor Roll, offers schools recognition across four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Schools on the AP School Honor Roll may also earn the AP Access Award, honoring schools that demonstrate a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
For a school to be recognized they must meet each of the following criteria anchored in research-based relationships between AP and college
outcomes:
• College Culture: 40% or more of graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
• College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam
during high school.
• College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high
school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading
their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
November is National American Indian Heritage Month
November is National American Indian Heritage Month and today we'd like to shine a spotlight on:
Mary Ross, a Cherokee, was the first Native American engineer. In 1942, Lockheed in California hired her as a mathematician. She worked on designing fighter jets and large planes. Mary worked her way up the ranks at Lockheed and become the only woman among on the original team at Skunk Works. Much of the work she did there remains classified. Some of the work we do know about includes preliminary design concepts for interplanetary space travel, manned space flight, ballistic missiles, and satellites in orbit above the earth.
