Cultural Arts Residency for the Intermediate Unit
This week, we began our Intermediate Cultural Arts residency program with tile artist, Kathy Casper. Students began creating and painting their own tiles.
With this mosaic project, we want to highlight the power of embracing and being ourselves! I am very excited to work with the students and Kathy Casper on this project.
Thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped out last week! We truly appreciate your time and support!

Meet the Intervention Teachers
Our intervention teachers, Ms. Adene Black and Mrs. Nicole Richardson, are an integral part of ensuring that all students are actively working towards their academic goals. At NPS, we have a great team of homeroom teachers who provide support to all students, providing instruction, intervention, and enrichment. Our intervention teachers support this goal.
Intervention teachers provide students and teachers with support in and out of the classroom. Throughout the year, intervention teachers push-in to classrooms to work with all teachers and students towards the mastery of academic goals. Intervention teachers also meet with targeted small groups to address specific learning needs.
SNAP
During gym class this month, Intermediate students will participate in the Special Needs Awareness/Athletic Program (SNAP), which allows kids to learn first-hand what life may be like for a child perceived as “different”.
With the assistance from 5th grade SNAP Ambassadors, they will complete four stations designed to simulate the physical or intellectual challenges of a few common disabilities (during one gym class).
At its core, this program is simply about reaching out, especially when they see another person struggling with a task or being excluded by his or her peers. SNAP is helping students understand why its’s important to advocate for a child who needs a hand. SNAP’s motto, “Making Kindness Cool,” acknowledges that while it is not always easy for kids to step outside of a comfort zone, to resist bullying or befriend a “different” child, it is the right step.
