Genetically Modified Pork
GMO Pigs
GMO
We know pigs as pork but the scientific name is Sus Domesticus. They were first genetically modified in 1999 at the University of Gueplh in Ontario. The U.S production of pork is more than 112 million. The world production of pork is 109 million. The reason that they are genetically modified is that it enables scientists to create pigs that are beneficial to humans, they are modified for science and agriculture. They are modified by scientists messing with the pigs genes to make the pig produce its own phytase in its salivary glands. Some of the benefits are the potential in many fields includig agriculture, medicine and industry. Also increased yield from farm animals. Farm animals are being used to produce important medical products, such as antibodies. Some risks are health risks, new diseases, and selective breeding.
