What is the Bill of Rights?
Amendment 1: Freedom of Speech, Religion, and the Press
Court Case: Charles T. Shenk v. United States
Charles said that there has to be a limit to the freedom of speech, because if we didn't we could yell "fire" in a theater and cause panic.
Amendment 2: Right to Bear Arms (weapons)
Court Case: Blliss v. Commenwealth
Bliss said that the state fining him for caring his sword around violated the second amendment, and the supreme court agreed.
Amendment 3: The Right to Privacy in Home
Court Case: Nevada Man
The guy the felt that the police infiltrated his house, but the ruling was that the police do not count as soldiers.
Amendment 4: Unreasonable Search and Seizure
Court Case: Arizona v. Evans
Evans items were searched without a warrant, and the court said that it is okay.
Amendment 5: Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, and Due Process of Law
Court Case: Dolan V. City of Tigard
Dolan applied a permit to expand her store, and Tigard was going to let her but Tigard said she had to give up some land to the public, it was proven it violated her right.
Amendment 6: The Rights of the Accused Criminal Cases
Court Case: Barker v. Wingo
Barkers trail was sold to be a a "speedy" one for when he applied.
Amendment 7: The Rights to a Jury Trial
Court Case: Mets v. New York
The Mets said that because of the bankruptcy law they didn't have to see a jury for this case, but they ruled the amendment that said they could.
Amendment 8: Preventing Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Court Case: Furman v. Gogeria
Three men were in court and they were going to be given the death penalty but they decided that for what they did this would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Amendment 9: Rights Retained by the People
Court Case: Grisworld v. Connecticut
Grisworld was teaching married couples about birth control, and the court ruled that the government was in the privacy of the couples.
Amendment 10: Limiting Federal Powers
Court Case: Hammer v. Dogen Hart
It was heard that he was working underage children, and they started passing laws about that, but they said that the laws were later found unconstitutional.
